When to take your boa to the vet?

Hello everyone. I just got my first boa and he seems to have had, or developed, an RI. He has very puny bubbles in his nostrils, they don't protrude very much even when he exhales. There's no mucus or moisture anywhere else, I checked the corners of his mouth and around the whole front of his nose and face. He won't let me open his mouth to check inside and I don't want to hurt him, but I did press lightly up on his throat to see if anything would ooze out and it didn't. I raised his temps to help him fight the infection, but my main concern is how long do you wait for him to recover before knowing it's time to take him to a vet for antibiotics. I just want to do everything right so he can recover and be healthy. Thanks for reading my giant paragraph and have a good one.

Bree

Re: When to take your boa to the vet?

Give him a couple of days of approx 90 degree temps and very low humidity. If there is no improvement or is worse, call the vet and make an appointment. If he seems to be improving, check on him every day or two afterwords to mark his progress. If a vet visit turns out to be completely unnecessary and he heals on his own, slowly bring the temps back down and humidity back up to optimal.

Good luck

Re: When to take your boa to the vet?

As I specified previously... Unless he's worsening, give him two weeks. If he's not gotten better, take him to that vet in Barberton. They'll do a full mark-up for $80.00, or that's what the price was the last time I spoke to them.
