Prolapsed Rectum
So, this isn't happening to me, or to any snake in my collection, but this has happened to one of Hope and Beau's babies... Her name with me was Randi, but her new name is Enigma. They've had Enigma and Vitiligo for 3-4 months now, and woke up this morning to her intestines approximately 2 inches out. Apparently it was recent, as the intestines were still slightly moist, and had good color. She's in surgery now to correct the problem, and we're hoping for a good outcome.
The vet they see is the same vet I use. Hope is a very healthy girl, and Beau has also had excellent health. All of the babies were vet checked at least once each before they left, and I'm confident that I am not the cause of this problem. That said, I'm hoping they come to some sort of reason as to why this happened. The vet has mentioned everything from Crypto to parasites, to bad husbandry, to innappropriate food sizes... etc. Given that they've had these snakes since August at the latest, what happens if it does come back positive for say Crypto or parasites? At the very least, I'll have the remaining boas from that litter that are still in my collection tested, hopefully proving that it didn't originate here.
I'm just terrified that one of my babies is sick... she may not be mine, anymore, but she'll always be "mine." I feel like crying. What do I do??? I've been in contact with her owners several times since I found out, and have told them to contact me with any and everything. Please keep little Enigma in your thoughts - she's under the knife was we speak. Here are the pictures I have of this little girl while she was still here with me:

Re: Prolapsed Rectum
I've dealt with prolapses and they are NO fun. Best wishes to Enigma.

Re: Prolapsed Rectum
Well, it only took 3 sutures, and she'll be able to go back to her owners tomorrow - I'm hoping to get more information then!

Re: Prolapsed Rectum
Poor snake...hope the cause does not remain an 'enigma'!? I don't see how this was caused by anything at your house Katie M, but like you, I'd be worried about her too! Let's hope for a speedy recovery! (I wonder what they meant by "bad husbandry", or if that was just grabbing at straws...?) Could also just be some sort of congenital weakness, IMO... keep us posted!

I think bad husbandry was meant as less than ideal temperatures, humidity, etc. So, initial tests all came back negative for parasites, and ickies like Crypto. According to my vet, it was caused by dehydration, and constipation. She pushed to hard....

Yeah, I was pretty confident it wasn't anything I did, or had caused, especially since it has been months since she went to her new home. That said, I would have hated to find out that it WAS a result of something on my end. I don't want to be one of "those" breeders that assumes that nothing is my fault, you know?
