Frazzled
Well some bad news on Jack and Sally... Jack's regurged two out of three meals. He somehow hasn't lost much body weight so that's good. We've been to the vet who can't seem to find anything wrong with him. I've checked my temps (which are near-perfect) and I was feeding him fuzzies while the breeder was feeding pups. I fed him a pinky tonight so we'll see how that goes. Sally on the other hand... She's absolutely infested with mites despite being treated with ivomec and she has a mild case of stomatitis. She's also not eating at all which I'm sure is related to the other issues. I'm treating her with Baytril and giving her chlorhexidine soaks. Unfortunately she's lost almost 40g (nearly half her body weight) since I got her. I'm trying with them and I won't give up. But these are the first health issues I've had in my collection and I'll admit I'm feeling a bit frazzled. Wish me luck guys!
Oh, and here's a link with pics of the boogers:

I'm sorry to hear this, Kelly. Do you think they arrived with these problems?

I'm fairly sure of it. No other snake in my collection has mites and these two have been in quarantine. Though I don't think the female had the stomatitis when I initially got her or if she did it was so minute that I didn't notice. She had just had a large meal just prior to me picking her up. I emailed the breeder and they've tried calling me a few times. Unfortunately both those times, I haven't been near my phone. I'm going to call them tomorrow to talk about the situation.

Good luck, keep plugging away. A friend of mine has a trio of rubber boas that he's been trying to fix for 2 years now, things are finally starting to pay off for him so keep your chin up!

Re: Frazzled
Kelly, I am so sorry! Still haven't tried Nix have you? It's worth a shot at least if nothing else will work to get rid of the mites.
Good luck to you and your new babies...I hope that they will pull through for you. You are so good to your animals and I know that if anything happens you did whatever you could to help them.

Re: Frazzled
Well Jack has been eating pinkies okay for me for the past two feedings so he's doing alright.
Sally on the other hand... I don't expect her to make it through the night really. The Baytril has had no effect. She's still open-mouth breathing and refusing food. She's become extremely limp. We put her on agrimycin to see if that has any chance of helping. But as I was bringing her home from the vet today, she started thrashing in her carrier, flinging her head upside down and opening her mouth wide. My vet is stumped. I'm not holding out much hope, but I do have some...

Oh Kelly, I am so sorry... just know that we are all rooting for you, and we all know how much you care for your babies. You've done more than most people would, so rest in the fact that you gave Sally every chance possible. Here's hoping she pulls through

Re: Frazzled
Thank you all so much for your concern. Unfortunately my fears were not unfounded. Sally passed sometime in the night. My only consolation is that she died warm and not in someone's freezer. I'm about to take her in for a necropsy. I will be sure to post the results as soon as I get them.
I've never lost a snake before... I didn't have her long but I didn't realize it would be this hard... I feel like I failed her.

Re: Frazzled
You did everything you could, and the necropsy results will likely bear that out. I've lost my share over the many years I've been in snakes so I know how you feel...I'm so sorry!

Re: Frazzled
You tried all that you could Kelly, don't feel like you let her down. And if she came with these problems then it's not your fault at all...
My condolences on your loss

Re: Frazzled
You know that we are all behind you in this, Kelly. A lot of people in this industry wouldn't have given Sally the fighting chance you did. I am confident that the necropsy tonight will shed light on the real cause of death, and you will find some peace with what happened. You know my number, I'm here for you.
As a word from someone who has assisted in her own snakes necropsies - for the first one, sit down till you know how you're going to react - no need to feel lightheaded or go down or anything, ok?
