Help with a Sick Looking Redtail
Hey all,
I came home today, and went to check on smitty. shes a 2 1/2 year old BCI. She looked just fine last night but when i checked on her this afternoon. The skin around her head looked very loose. her head on a flat surface in her cage, and the skin was like flattened out at the side, almost (if you get what i mean). I wish i had a camera so i can getta shot of it. She was also very stressed it seemed when i walked in the room she arched her back almost like an angry cat lol
Any ideas?
thanks

Re: Help with a Sick Looking Redtail
She maybe getting ready to shed. Are her eye cloudy or milky looking? Her eyes will clear up about 4 to 7 days before she sheds.
Take care
Tom

Re: Help with a Sick Looking Redtail
I agree with Tom. Our boas look like that, too, before a shed.

Re: Help with a Sick Looking Redtail
My boa, Oolong, does the same thing when she's getting ready to shed, neck-skin-wise. She didn't do it when she was younger, but as she got older, she's gotten all "flappy" when she's going to shed, no matter what the humidity is, although I think a little extra misting helps.
The arched back is kind of weird, but not outright alarming. Keep an eye on her, and let us know if anything else weird happens. Good luck with her!

Def a shed cycle...Agression, loose skin...a few signs of the shed.
Now if this continues longer then 2 weeks take your pet in to see a vet.
I think your fine though :P

Re: Help with a Sick Looking Redtail
I wouldn't say definitely a shed it could be dehydration.

Agreed... skin that isn't "skin tight" is also a sign of dehydration. Make sure she's got plenty to drink, good humidity, and temps. I'd bet it's a shed though... cause I'm sure she has water available to her.
Good Luck, let us know if you need anything else, or if this continues or anything.
