Help Dehydration/Shedding?!?

Mangi has been in blue phase for several days now. I check on him every morning and while his eyes are lightening up, he's got some folds under his chin and neck that make him look like he's dehydrated. He was treated for mites a week or 2 ago (all gone.), and doesn't show any neurological symptoms from the treatment (I used the Equate Bedding Spray). He's just more reclusive and inactive, but all my snakes do this before they shed.

The wrinkles don't look any worse than before, and the humidity is right around 70-80%, without dropping below 60%.

This is my first shed dealing with a boa, all the others have been corn snakes and they just change color, not skin texture. I want to disturb him as little as possible, but if he continues to look like this I'm soaking him in some 50/50 pedialyte and water and I'll be off to the vet.

Re: Dehydration/Shedding?!?

I think you just need to wait a bit longer and he will shed quite all right, if the humidity is as you say, correct.

Re: Dehydration/Shedding?!?

I think he will be OK too. He just looks a little funny now being slightly wrinkly.

I just started worrying because he did have mites and I did use chemicals to get rid of them.

But yes, the humidity never drops below 60 and he's been soaked in warm water several times since the mites... so he should be nice and moisturized.

Re: Dehydration/Shedding?!?

you could always give him/her a light misting.
that can't hurt.

Re: Dehydration/Shedding?!?

mine usually look a little wrinkly after they clear up too, most noticably around the chin/neck area, but after they shed it goes away

Re: Dehydration/Shedding?!?

I have grown to accept this as normal with my BCI...........each shed she has gone thru she gets very loose skin around her chin/neck area. She sheds perfect every time and the skin tightens up once she has shed her old skin.

I really hope this helps ease your mind, as I don't think it is humidity related at all. Your humidity levels are any thing but low from what I've read.

I would say enjoy your boas first shed!
