This is a how to I posted on another forum quite a while ago....think it may help

this is No Pest Strip...(to the right of the Provent A Mite)
The first thing that must be done is to remove the water bowl from the cage that the snake is in. If it is left in durring the process and the fumes from the strip settle on the surface of the water you will in effect have a bowl of poison just waiting for your animal to drink it. I always bleach the bowl (if it is to be reused) immediately after removing it from the cage.
Second thing is to remove the No Pest Strip from its wrapper and then to take appart the plastic covering so that you are only left with the yellow inner core of the strip. Bag the wrapper and plastic casing immediately as to not forget that it is laying around. Cut the yellow strip for the size that you would need to use for the size cage you have (ie: a 40 breeder would need about a quarter of the yellow strip. A 4x4 AP or Vision would use about a third of a strip). Place the strip in a disposible tupperware type of container that has holes drilled or melted into it as to allow the strip to circulate air around it but NOT allow the snake to touch the strip. It should look like this....
Place the encased strip in with the snake IN THE CAGE but water removed as close to the center of the cage as possible (if it is an excessively large cage you my wish to do a stip in opposite corners to evenly disperse the product). If you use a screen top "aquarium" you will need to cover the top with a towel or sheet to deliberately trap in the product. Vision, Boaphile, Animal Plastics type caging usually will be able to hold in the product without blocking the ventilation.
Leave the strip in with the snake for a full 48 hours. Remove the snake after the two days and rinse it down pretty good so it does not soak in the freshly replaced water bowl and leave any of the settled fumes on its skin in the water. Remove the old substrate and throw it away. I like to scrub down the cage afterwards (a good excuse for a thorough cage cleaning and you will lessen the chances of an egg or two that didn't hatch still being viable). Replace the water and snake into the cage.
The cage and snake should be mite free at this point. If there is carpet in the room the snake is in I take the strip (still in the container) and leave it outside the cage for a few days. This should clear up any straglers that are waiting to go right back into you animal's cage.
Discard the refuse outside as you don't want to throw it away in a place like your kitchen where you will be preparing food. As long as you are taking the proper precautions it is a very effective way to go. Just be careful.
On a side note: a well known, long time Suriname breeder said to me that he uses it on ANY new arrival as a preventative measure. It is part of his standard quarentine approach. It goes from the box to the stripped cage for 48 hours before he handles it.
Please be careful if you use this method as other breeders are quick to frown upon its use due to the potential dangers for your snake if there is an error on your part. Take it as just another option out of many ways to rid your pets of mites.

Re: treating mites with (no pest strip)
Go to any drug store or super market and look for their lice control treatments.
Find the spray that has the same content make up as Provent-a- Mite,
0.50% Permethrin;99.5% other. It should cost about $6.00 - as opposed to >$20.00 for PAM, plus it's OTC. Apply in the same manner. Never let it touch your pet.

Re: treating mites with (no pest strip)
i dont know why people still ask about this or that chemical when plain old dish soap will kill 100% of mites 100% of the time with no risk at all to your animal.

Sorry to dig up an old tread but
Would washing up liquid be sufficient (the kind for doing dishes)?
If the snake was left to soak in a Rubbermaid container with water and little washing up liquid mixed in? Would this take get rid of the mites?

Re: treating mites with (no pest strip)
i would assume it might kill the mites on the snakes body, but you still have to do something about the ones in and around the snakes cage and bedding and cage decor, plus any eggs that would hatch out later and re-infest your snake.

Re: treating mites with (no pest strip)
The NIX treatment was the easiest and the best to use. I tried PAM(not the cooking stuff) and it didn't work for us at all. I know people swear by the stuff but it just didn't get the job done.
