Ok I have a 55gallon tank and I have a screen hood. How would I go about keeping the right amount of humidity in the tank for the snake.

A LOT of plastic wrap.

Cover about 80% of the top with plastic wrap and put in a big waterbowl.

That's how I do it.

well, your substrate could have some bearing on it.

Also, what type of snake is it?
you may be able to just have a nice enclosed hide box ( I like 1 gal plastic ice cream buckets)
with moist spaghnum moss inside.

But other than that,
the plastic wrap idea works,
a towel can work too, but towels can absorb moisture also.
