Help with MITES?
Hey everyone. Just last week my Suri was going into shed, and was soaking alot. When I went in there to change her water bowl I noticed little black bugs in her water dish. I looked at them and they look like mites. I let her go through her shed and everything, Gave her a meal (which she ate). So just today I took out her substrate and put her two hides in the oven to cook for a bit to kill any eggs that were on there. I was checking out the snake to see if I could see any mites on her. I looked under a few scales and got a couple that were under her belly. It took me a while to locate them and then pull them out. Im just wondering if there is any other way of going about getting mites off the snake? Ive also read about provent a mite or that other cheap 4 dollar stuff that you can use also (which I will use once i get the mites off her). What do I do for now? If I spray the tank will this take care of the mites that are on the snake now?
Any info please respond.
Thanks
Rich

i have the same problem and unfortunately i didnt catch them in time. i work at a vets office so i asked one of the docs.if you feel the problem is bad enough i suggest going to the vet and talking to them. i was prescribed Ivermectin for the mites. havent used it yet but i will tell you how it works when im done with it. but listening to people on here is also a good idea

Ok I used to advocate for the 5% Sevin Dust, but I have since received some info, which I will have to find to share stating it's not the best stuff..
The ABSOLUTE BEST stuff is the Provent A Mite (PAM) or the PERMANONE spray available in the camping section at Wal Mart) its a bit cheaper than the P-A-M (which btw I HATE calling it PAM, because ppl think you literally mean PAM cooking spray..LOL (I've been one of them) )
The RID sprays and Equate lice sprays available for bedding, at Wal mart are best left to human use, as well as the pest strips and anything NOT specified for reptile use that I left out.
Hope that helps..
A nice soak in plain water, and just treating the substrate and decorations and cage once or twice, should do the job though.
