Quarantine Q
Magic is a rescue that came in with scale rot and an RI. Beside those she was also treated for severe dehydration and possible internal parasites.
All of Magic's symptoms are gone. Treatment for scale rot was completed and she checked negative for internal parasites. The RI was treated and has cleared up. She gained over 50 gr in weight in less than four weeks (not bad for a BP baby).
By how long should I extent her quarantine period??? Normally I keep the new babies quarantined for 60 to 90 days (depending on from whom I got them). In Magic's case I initially planned on a 90-day quarantine, but I simply don't know, if that's adequate.

A long quarentine is usually best 6 months to 1 year to avoid any chance of transmitting IBD. But I am sure you know that. If you are not worried about IBD then I would suggest maybe 90 full days of good health. So if you have her checked and she is getting a clean bill of health from the vet, or you have all issues cleared up, or whatever, start counting at the date of good health. quarentining for 90 consecutive days. If all still appears healthy stop, if any problems spring up, restart the quarentine at 0. Just my opinion.

6 months is minimal for pythons and 1-2 years for boas...
Just think...
BW had live liver biopsies done on asymptomatic boas and they came back positive for IBD.

deadliestformula, you better believe that IBD is a concern to me!!! BW lost all of his babies to it. I got a pretty nice collection by now and I'm highly protective of my "babies".
Reptscue, I remember that ... I really felt horrible for BW. At the time I was already aware of IBD and was using two separate rooms for my snakes. I'm using the livingroom for my boas (they are never in contact with any of the other snakes) and the snake room for the established collection of pythons, BPs, etc.
My quarantines are on different floor levels in the house in separate rooms.
I'm gonna go ahead and mark the calendar for September this year before adding Magic to the snake room. 90 days just doesn't sound safe.
Thanks everyone!

Since the animal had health issues I would do a minimum of 6 months. All animals that come into my collection are quarentined for a minimum of 3 months if I know who they came from. If I don't, they get at least 6. Most of mine have come from breeders I know well and I personally have been there and picked out the animals.

Soundunsleep-- I wasn't meaning to come off that you weren't concerned with IBD....I apologise if I did. I only meant that aside from quarenteening to prevent the possibility of IBD, the quarentine should be.....blah blah blah.
I know that there are times that you know who the snake came and trust that it is 'clean' regardless of other health issues it may have.
So pretty much what I was getting at but should have worded differently was that Aside from quarenteening to prevent IBD spread.....
I hope you understand what I am meaning, I apologise for any confusion the earlier post may have caused.

deadliestformula, I understood just fine, where you were coming from. Don't worry - it's appreciated! I myself bring up IBD concerns to anyone whom I know that decides on purchasing boas or pythons (just in case they haven't done the homework and studied up on it already).
