could be that he's getting ready to shed. sometime's they'll look that way just before they shed. could be a retained eye-cap from a previous shed. just make sure your humidity is good, and it should clear up, either way.

well if you have a screen top you can put a moist towel on top to cover some of the screen and mist a couple times and your humidity should be easier to keep where it needs to be.

temps sound fine, id say put the water bowl on the warm side, mist 2 times a day altleast. if you go away again cover the top of the tank with a damp towel and put the water bowl on the warm side the humidity should stay up. what are you using for a substrate?

actually 50-55 isnt all that bad, but during shedding they need about 75% plus and then drop it back down to the normal, also i learned this by accident but...If you remove you bedding and put newspaper down they wet the news paper (my female knocked over her water dist) then put the cypress over the wet newspaper (so the snake isnt sitting on a wet floor) the humidity will rise but it wont be wet. Its worth a try molding may start if you dont change out the substrate every couple weeks though.

I'd always heard that snakes don't like to drink warm water and can become dehydrated. Is it really a good idea to put the dish on the warm side?

It's like a poor fix, putting the water on the warm side. The better thing to do is get an enclosure that will hold humidity. Misting is OK, but it's easily forgotten about and tough to do if you travel and/or have a busy schedule. I'd try to find a solid top, instead of a screen or mesh top. That will make it so much easier to get the humidity and temps right.
