LOL skadiwolf...you are diging up posts that have been dead for over a year.
anyway...since ya brought it up...reptibark is what now? 8 bucks for a tiny bag? Check out the huge bags of cypress mulch at home depot or Lowes for 2 dollars. It holds humidity better than anything I have ever used. It id marketed though for garden use so as a precaution, I always spray a little puff of Sawyers tick spray into a new bag to kill any mites or ticks that may have wondered into the bag. I have never had any problems with it though.

Not to bring this post up again but.....
Juliuis when you use the home depot cypress mulch do you also do the washing with bleach water and baking or just the tick spray?
I have been using repti-bark but it does get expensive... especially when I am using black night to kill any living thing in the repti-bark prior to even bringing it near my cages. Cant ever be too safe when bringing home something from the pet store!

I don't wash it....I just spray it and use it. The stuff is great...looks natural...they love to burrow around in it. I don't think it would hurt to wash it...but it has a lot of fine particles and would make a huge mess.
There are reports that some Australian pythons have a mild reaction to it. But it does not effect every snake of that same species. The only case I have ever seen of this first hand is a friend of mine had a pair of water pythons on it. The male was fine....the female kept breaking out with water blisters. When removed and put in a sick tank on newspaper...she would be fine again at next shed and then when put back on cypress....she would break out again.....took a lot of reasearch but I finally found reports of more various pythons (all Australian) having this problem related to cypress....however none were carpet pythons. At any rate....if the problem arises with any species...time to rethink the caging and substrate. I have all kinds of boids, colubrids and pit vipers on it now with no problems.

At 450 I think it would take more than 10 minutes to heat the middle for long enough to kill everthing, and if you leave it on by accident you will regret it!! lol, A few months back I was baking mulch at 450, and left it for 4 hours. Needless to say when I remembered it my apartment was FULL of smoke. It never caught fire but it was smoldering pretty good. I'm sure if there was more air in the oven it would have started a fire. pretty scary. -Juggalo

Since the thread has been brought back up, I used Repti-Bark for a few months. Never did have a problem with such, but that stuff does get pretty dusty.
