I just bought some meds to have on hand in case I need them. I've got Panacur (already mixed), Flagyl, and Albon. The Albon came packaged for poutlry use, as a powder, and the metronidazole is in capsule form, for use in fish tanks. What's the best way to mix these for use in reptiles? I've got experience running fecals, so I really hate to pay the money to have a vet check fecals for me, not to mention getting a fresh sample on a day when the exotic vet is available. Plus, they really want to see each animal at least once, which adds an exam fee to the bill! There's a vet in Indy that might work with me, buit that means a 45 minute drive, at least, every time I need a fecal done! Anyway, enough ranting. I just need to know the best way to mix these. Also, if I mix up the whole batch, will it keep, or should I only mix up as much as I need? Thanks!

Well, we need a lil bit more info on the meds, such as the concentration etc. (something like 22.7% etc.)

Here's what I could find on the label.
Sulfadimethoxine soluble powder
Each packet contains 94.6g sulfadimethoxine
net weight of 1 packet-107g

Metronidazole capsules are 250 mg per capsule

Well, I'm no medical expert, but I would think saline solution for mixing if injecting and distilled water for oral.

Matronidazole doses:
snakes: 100-275 mg/kg PO, repeat in 2 wks (Jacobson, 198
Eastern Indigoes: 40mg/kg (ibid)
King Snakes: 100mg/kg (ibid)

CAUTION using this in Indigo and Tricolor ring snakes.

MEC dose 1.8 Frequncy 0.03

Hope some of that helps...

And for the panacur, it's most likely the smaller % one.
I use 10 mg per kg of snake.

Flagyl, I'm not sure on.

But with the powdered forms it will last longer un-mixed.
