It appears that my red tail has excess excess skin mainly underneath his "chin" and behind his head, and I am wondering if the fact that he is about to shed has anything to do with this. He almost seems dehydrated, (skin behind his head when pinched takes awhile to return to how it was) but he has no indents in his eyesm and humidity isn't a problem. He hasn't had any troubles digesting his food, nor shows any signs of illness. He's not aggressive at all. Will his condition improve after shedding? He doesn't appear to have any parasites. Thank you for your time... I'm at a loss.

It does sound like he may be a bit dehydrated. I would reccomend soaking him in a 50/50 mix of pedialyte and water for about an hour per day until his condition improves.

It may be his shed too. Doing what morti said can never hurt anyways so give it a try. Mine gets a lot of skin behind his head that appears to be slightly dry and wrinkly but it goes away after shed...Keep a close eye on it though.

I think that shed may have been to blame. Soaking is a good idea anyway, although Yuuto may not think so all the time. He gets a bit nervous from time to time, my hand has to be in the water with him for his happiness. It's alright. Thanks again!

I use their feeding boxes for the ones that don't soak, and My bathtub for the bigguns. If you have air holes in your feeding box (that is if you use a feeding box) I would use that, just get them in and put the lid on. make sure there are PLENTY of airholes. -Juggalo

When i have to soak my snake i use a locking rubbermaid tub. The boas and other boids rarely try to escape. once they feel enough resistance with the pid they stop. Yes Drill holes in the lid too.
