This seems like a good place to put this in . . .
I was talking to my dad about how I thought my Pepito might have mites (rubbing his head on things, soaking, but I can't find any mites), and he said that when he had rabbits, he'd use vegetable oil to get rid of their ears mites. He figured mineral oil and other suchness would work, too. Apparently, it suffocates the mites and kills them, without harming the rabbits (snakes, too I guess).
Has anyone here tried it?

its been done, but its hard to get mites out of the gular folds and under the cloaca.
vegatable oil may work on surface mites, and a few that are not buried too deep.
There are better ways.
Look for something called black knight, or provent-a-mite.
Someone here can probably post an address or url.

well...mineral oil is a way to kill mites, the only problem is that the snake becomes slippery, to she/he will feel nervous without grip, i use, maybe your snake is preparing for shed! face rubbing and water soaking are sight of this too....keep watching

He actually JUST shed, like, 4 days ago. But it's his first shed with me, so this might just be what he does. None of the others are acting wierd.
Right-o on the oil answers.

If he just shed and is still rubbing his head around he may have a small piece of shed or a retained eye cape that is bugging him. I would check its eyes. Hope this helps.
