Mites?

There is a grey (not completely) circular extrusion (appears very loose) near the eye of my BP. It is roughly the size of a scale (somewhat larger than a pinhead). I think it may have moved to this location from the tail because I saw a similar circle there. What the #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& is it? She had been sprayed with a mite-repellent solution before this was noticed. She has not fed in more than a month, maybe two. Her scales seem rough and loose. I'm considering removing it with tweezers, is this a good idea? Now, I feel itchy all over. Am I paranoid or do I have mites also?

ball python chick will become famous soon enough
is she soaking?mites are usually hard to see.normally by the time you can actually see a mite the snake is infested with them.mites cruise in and out of the scales.could it be a tick?ticks dont move around as much, but will change to a different spot to feed.

yeah i think a tick might be the best bet.. i sprayed the cage and the snakes for mites a while ago and i bake the substrate before i put it in the cage...
the spot definitely moved from the tail to the eye.

ahh.... removing ticks ... tweezers?

I removed the tick with tweezers. I am now thinking that many of her bad looking scales could've been caused by ticks. Is this possible? Also, I've read that flagyl may increase her appetite and remove any parasites present in her intestines. Where is a good place to purchase flagyl? How much would I need to buy?

First take a stool sample to your vet. If she came with ticks, she's likely wildcaught and very well could have internal parasites too but don't just worm her without seeing what she has. There are other worm medications that treat other things. flagyl will take out a few but the majority need to be treated with panacur and some may need something else. Please let a qualified herp vet do his/her thing before you go guessing at treatments that may not even need to be done. Meanwhile, keep looking for ticks. examine every scale on her and look in and around the vent and heat pits. be careful when plucking them so as not to break off the ticks head. This can cause a serious infection. Heated tweezers are your friend. Gently grasp a tick, being careful not to touch your snake with hot tweezers (heated with a lighter is fine) and after a couple of seconds, the tick will let go to try and escape the burning tweezer grip or maybe they like the feeling and just stick their head out to see what's going on...who knows? Either way, they let go and that's all that matters
