Subject: burmese python

A friend of mine has a 15 month old female burmese python. The snake has'nt
eaten for three weeks. Do you know of any reason why? The owner is getting
very worried, but has no transport and no money to get it to a vet. Hope
you can help.

Our reply-----------------------
There are many reasons a snake wont eat. Improper heat or humidity,
interrupted day/night cycle, too much handling and the list goes on.

Your friends best action is to get it to a qualified reptile vet. I know
this can be costly but this living creature could be in pain and "On-line
advice" may not be enough to correct the problem. Medication may be needed.
If your friend cannot afford to care for this animal and would give it up to
someone who is able, please let me know and I will try to help you find a
home.
May I post your question in other reptile forums so you may access further
advice?

I'll let Joyce know what you have said. Yes, you can post my question
- I myself was looking for a similar question and couldn't find one.
thanks again

Well they don't say what they were trying to feed it. If it was live, prekilled or F/T. And anything about the enclosure setup. Without any of that information it is really hard to diagnose the problem. Like you told her, there are many things that it could be. It might be as simple as raising the temps up a few degrees or even just wiggling the food item a bit. I have found that when a snake won't eat it is usually the enviroment that it is in. Either the cage is not kept the proper temps or is in a main area of the house that gets a lot of traffic and the snake is just to tense to eat. Good luck with her.
