I've been in contact off and on with the professor involved with and probably knows the most about IBD research.

The long and the short of it is that not much is being done, because the university cannot afford to hire a graduate student to study it. In order to do so, they'd need at least $30,000 for a single year. More like $40,000.

After talking with this professor, he indicated to me that several reptile shows routinely donate a % of their procedes to the IBD research fund. In fact, if every show in a calendar year donated $500, they could probably afford a grad student the very next year, according to him.

I was thinking that if 1 of every 3 members at RTB donated $1, that would be like another show donation, a little over $650.

Sadly, the professor seems to think that no matter how small the gift, people will want an update, and he doesn't want to have to keep track of all the small gifts.

there may not be a cure for IBD for a long, long time...

An addendum,

the total donations over the past SEVEN years have not amounted to $30,000. that money was spent for part time research several years ago. There have been no donations of any kind over the last year at all.

A grad student would also be required over 4 years, so they'd need $30k per year for 4 years and he has come to the conclusion that this will not happen.

Jeez, that's awful! Wish I could help donate, but I can't afford to treat my own medical condition right now....

Someone needs to demonstrate that IBD is similar to something that either people or one of our common meat animals can get before you'll get funding to research it in snakes.
