Ah, perhaps you meant Python sebae and Python natalensis.

What I was atually alluding to is that natalensis has been elevated to a full species, and is no longer considered to be a ssp of sebae. (Broadley 1999).

Just for shins & giggles, I'm working on obtaining a hard copy of the paper in question, as I'd like to know what data Broadley used to support his determination.

I wish they could survive the winters here. I'd love to turn a couple loose in the yard in hopes of maybe getting rid of a certain pomeranian and the kid that spray painted the orange spot in the middle of my driveway. :P

No problem here Ian. You have never been on my "Christmas card" list. And you can call me Damon if you like. I have it in my profile.

As to the rocks,.. yes, I do have them and when I got the last two females from Jay Vella/Brewer (whichever) in person, at his store, "Prehistoric Pets", he handed me one saying, "And these are my broadbanded patternless females". So I have called them that ever since. I think that due to the striped balls and striped retics craze recently that the name "Striped rocks" was more marketable and so that was likely decided on for marketing purposes. But,.. he did call them "broadbanded" when I picked them up. It makes no difference to me what they are called, they are still the same awesome snake. So one can refer to them as "lined", Streaked", "Linear lined", or "string beaned" for all I care.

Are you the same Ian that is a friend of Jay's (Owens) that is a "Laird"? Just curious.

Wow, I did not know that. Thanks for sharing! If you get a hold of that paper, I would LOVE to see it!

Damon, I will take your word on having the snakes, just for the sake of argument. It was a bad night when I first posted on that message about the striped rocks...so no hard feelings? Cool? Cool.
I have been known to call mine a pinstripped patternless on occasion. I just snapped that night.

And yes, I am a friend of Jay's and I am a Laird (or Lord if you would prefer)

Ian

Interesting note: I have noticed that AfRocks can tolerate more temperature extremes than most other boids...just in case you were wondering... []

I'm almost afraid to ask just how you found that out, lol.

I prefer Ian. Though I too am a "Lord" of sorts. A "slum lord" according to reliable sources, lol. Just kidding. Look, try not to believe everything you hear or read. I'm not a bad guy.

Thermostat malfunction for the heat (105 is about what it got up to) and power outage and went into the 60's. This was years ago, but I notice that my AfRocks sit at the cold side of their cage alot, which is in the 60's during the winter. The hot side is only 95...and no RI's.
