Re: Best beginner Giant python
you should definitely think about it....its more than just saving for an apartment, it costs A LOT of $$ to have your own place, even if you save and stuff unless your parents give you $$....Think about it, phone bills, utilities (water/electric/internet/cable), car insurance, food, gas etcetcetc, then you have enclosures/accessories for the snake(s), food and possibly but not hopefully vet bills....Don't rush into it though, A LOT can change between 16 and moving out, trust me...And a lot of apartments are starting to look down on snakes, if they ever come for maintenance and see something a lot of places will tell...One of my complexes didn't like it but I knew one of the workers, so I got away with it...Good luck but think about it first.

Actually, they just get longer, IMO.
But yes, start with a MALE burm. They're really sweet. Just do your homework

Sorry for the double post here
I agree with everything said here. I am in an apartment currently. With all four of my snakes, money can get really tight. Heck, even with one it would.
But I saw a post on here a while back - it said they lived in an aparment complex as well, but claimed their snakes as "aquarium animals".
It works

Re: Best beginner Giant python
i hope you have been saving since birth man, it cost us about 2,000 dollars a month give or take, and saying there is no emergencies, unexpected cost, ect.
and we live pretty basic, until we are done with college, be prepared to spend about 24,000 a year minimum just to live.

Re: Best beginner Giant python
i agree with the female boa folks but for another reason. exit costs!!!! suppose you have an unexpected circumstance. i know you have planned well but s... happens!!!! it is easier to find a home for a boa, carpet or blood than a berm. furthermore state laws are begining to work against giant reptile ownership. you realy want to look at the cost bennifit from owning a berm vs. some other species. furthermore not everyone is going to be inclined to offer assistance in putting jr. back in his cage. unless you are going into breeding etc a pet should be a joy not a job to keep. once again i am a lazy keeper.

well said, I prob average around 1500 a month, i split a townhouse with 2 friends, but theres insurance, phone etcetc also...if you're in school think about books and class costs plus missed work for being in school....then if anything comes up with a snake or anything vet bills can add up QUICKLY (i'm a tech, i know)....

They do tend to be just long and skinny at first...but once they get older they start to pack on the girth as well.

I agree with that statement. I know more than a couple 120+pound Retics that are only 30 minutes away from my house
