Does anyone have a snake that will just open her mouth and wait for you to put food in it? I was going through the process of feeding one of my retics a 3 pound rabbit. I slid open the door to her cage, and since she did not see a hook she threw 4 feet of her body out of her cage as she attempted to grab her dinner (good thing I use giant tongs). The funny thing is after the initial strike she refused to close her mouth, and she sat there at the front of her cage with her mouth open. After waiting a while for her to close her mouth I eventually just picked up the rabbit and slowly placed it in her mouth, she slowly lowered her power jaws around the rabbit and began eating. I have kept snakes since I could walk and I have never had a snake wait for over 5 minutes for me to drop food in her mouth

I've had snakes take food from my hand like a kitten, but never sit there waiting. What a character, lol.

That is odd. Precious will usually start mauling it as soon as she feels it is dead. She just took a 4 & 3/4 lb rabbit that did not even separate her scales.
Is this your only snake that does this?

yes she is the only one. she also has the best feeding response and is probably the smartest of the snakes i have. my rock python has doubled in size and her feeding reponse should be matching my retics soon.

Well get some pics up of the little Rock. Perhaps the retic takes a while to re align her jaw. Retics are so amazing when they have the viscous feeding response. I love how unlike many other snakes, they have the agility to throw their body at prey instead of pulling prey towards them. It makes life easier when taking prey larger or heavier than yourself.

Precious has a response like this. Somebody made a post about not smelling like food to avoid getting wrapped, I responded Precious could care less if you smelled like gasoline if you move and are warm she is going to try and eat you.

i can throw some rock pics up now if you want, my girlfriends camera sucks . she will probably end up being a nice display snake but her temperment right now is pretty good.
