Big Jampea Retic

I just had this guy shipped in for my programs. A beautiful 13' Jampea Reticulated Python. He is a sweetheart and should do great at shows.

From what I have read, most Jamps are pretty docile. They are flight, not bite. I had one specimen in the first flux of jamps a long time ago. I had a 6' male back in 1999 or 2000 that acted like a boa. It came in a normal shipment and I got it because it had silver eyes and didn't bite. Soon after, I found out the Jampeas even existed. I got rid of him after a couple years because I could not find a female. I am excited to have another one (particularly one pushing the size limits).

Re: Big Jampea Retic

thnx BW, i am thinking of going with a retic sometime, and the jampeas always matched the size I want, but i have been told they are one of the crazier retics

Re: Big Jampea Retic

Man I love Jampeas... I want a retic but of course I don't have the space for a huge enclosure or the people I need for helping me with a large animal... but I've been looking into the Jampeas or other dwarf 'tics for awhile now, I really love them. It may be a good while yet before I can ever get one.

What size enclosure is yours in?

Re: Big Jampea Retic

BTW I've often wondered, about on average, how many animals do you take with you to shows? It must be quite a handful. lol

Re: Big Jampea Retic

Do they all have silver eyes? I thought the Jampea I saw once had yellow eyes. I could be wrong, or it could have been mislabeled...??

Some have silver eyes while others have the standard mainland retic orange eyes. Every single Jampea I have ever seen in person had silver eyes (maybe im just lucky)

Re: Big Jampea Retic

I have seen some listed as jampeas that did not have silver eyes, but I donít know if those were crossed with mainland varieties or not. About the first thing everyone did when dwarf variations were discovered was to cross them out to get dwarfish morphs. Personally, I would not get a Jampea that did not have silver eyes.

Re: Big Jampea Retic

Good looking snake BW, will it remain with you the rest of it's life? or will it be passed around like the gators you get? I am not trying to start trouble I am just not familiar with the educational "lending" of reptiles.
