Burm breeding scare
first of all i'm in the UK and i know your feelings on breeding burms but we don't have the same re-homing problem as you do.
so please no nasty coments about me adding to the rescue centers
Ok, so i'm planning on breeding my two albino burms next year but seeing as they're both a reasonable size about ten minutes ago i decided to introduce them.
I don't think it went well.
I introduced the female into the males viv and they both went crazy!! No biteing but loads of twitching, shoving, hissing. The male ran and the female seemed to be seeing him off!!
I swiftly removed the female before they became too aggressive but it did seem to be getting to a biting point.
What caused this?? They are both around 10ft, i know the female is a little small but i just wanted to see what happened.
Please help

It seems odd that they would even acknowlege each other's presence. How big is the cage? You really need to put some more size on her before attempting a breeding or even risking an oops breeding while "just seeing how they get along". You don't want her eggbound. Are you 100% sure of the sexes? It's not at all uncommon for expert probings to prove very wrong later when they grow up. Babies are just hard to probe.

Oh...something to think about too. So England doesn't have a huge burm placement problem...So why create one? She could easily produce 60 babies in one clutch. You know of 60 people that can house and properly care for a burmese python for life? Or are you selling them to petstores or any JoeBlow impulse buyer factoring in that most won't be properly cared for and will die long before they are a size/housing/feeding problem anyway? I know you requested not to get lectured and I'm really not...just asking if you have considered these things. Honestly, I think there are far more worthy breeding projects out there that would HELP the hobby rather than ....create yet another burm problem. Just because you haven't heard about it, doesn't mean it's not already a problem. OR...Just because it's not yet a problem doesn't mean it won't be by the time your first bucket full of eggs hatch.

the cage is 8x3ft
The male was climbing upt the walls trying to get awey...and he's the bigger one.???
To be honest i'm not 100% sure on sex as i've not seen them probed.
I realise the female is too small to breed but curiosity got the better of me.
The male is 3yrs old and 11ft and the female 18 months and 10.5ft

i understand your views on breeding burms and respect them. But the female is a long term pet and i wanted to breed her at least once. My Guyana's are still too small and i have itchy feet.

Could they both be females?
I've had my suspicions that the new Male i just bought is in fact a female.
Would females display this way or maybe two males?????
HELP????
i do realise i need to probe them immediatly but need some theories.

Could they both be females? Of course they could. You have a 50/50 chance on each one. You could have 2 males, 2 females or a pair. Find someone to probe them if you want to know for sure what you have. As far as their behavior ...It's something that likely won't get serious...just a little huffing and puffing about their space being invaded BUT... until the female (If one is a female) is big enough to breed, DO NOT risk letting her breed too young. That's it from me...I feel greasy even discussing burm breeding to anyone for any reason

ok thank you.
I suppose it was all common sence but just needed a point in the right direction. I appreciate your input and i appreciate your view on breeding them. I have all good intensions and if they where to breed i will be sensible as to who i sell/give them too.
