Too Young for a Burmese?
Well everyone who looks at the little 17" burmese babies in the petstore thinks they're cute; the first snake I wanted to get.. Then I realized probably wasn't the best idea at 15, so I got a ball python and boa to learn a little more about husbandry ect.. Well I have a huge open spot for an aquarium and the money and income to feed all my snakes... +1. Of course how could I make a longterm commitment without getting some advice from all the people on redtailboa.net
So correct me PLEASE if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that a MALE burmese python (as long as I'm not feeding him pigs every other day) will max out near 10ft... maybe A little more. I feel I can manage that, kept a 8' female boa for 4 months (I'd like to say 'rescue' but just my freinds while he moved) and she wasn't a problem. The amount of time I have interactions with my snakes there as freindly as a kitty. the main reason I started this thread was obviously for anything you guys can add, especially some growth rate info because I mostly found stuff about females ect..
(didn't start this thread for ridicule, just advice though its a think line ain't it?)

10 feet??? I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure they can get up to 15 feet. An 8 foot 30 pound boa is one thing, but a 15 foot 90 pound burm is HUGE!!!
Look up Baby, the Burmese python. 403 pounds!!!
Why not try a female BCC, then Blood python to see how you handle big snakes, THEN see if you are ready for a burmese python. One person handling a big burm isn't safe IMHO.
All of this is just opinion.

bp you realize that there is an astronomical difference between genders of snakes? this 'baby' is probably fed more often or more than SHE needs to be.. blood python is a big snake? <- that might make me sound really dumb but my neighboor has a blood python thats the size of my bp

the headline for this photo was HUGE albino male... I'm not going to starve my burmese, or even underfeed him, but I sure am not going to overfeed him to make him "huge" I might be wrong but this huge male doesn't look too out of hand, especially if the burmese I get is as calm as ALL the snakes I have ever owned

www.houstonherp.com/HHSPriceList.htm scroll down some for that pictures information, I guess a foot or two could be behind him BUT still I think I'd be fine with a snake that size...
*I really don't want to sound really overconfident because in third person when people do It always angers me*

Males can get just as big as females. It's only a general statement that females can get bigger.
And actually a blood is bigger than a ball python in girth. Thats what I meant.

oh I meant to ask you... I read that a baby burmese will be fine in a 20 gallon... my reaction was "yeah for about 20 minutes" with there growth rate * I dont want to buy alot of cages * do you think it would be good to start in a 30 or 45L? whats yours in? I'm planning to make a custom cage for him obviously but not for a couple months
