1x2 Frame?

Hello,

Soon I will be building at least two (possibly more) 6x3x18 cages for a pair of burms. I was thinking of building it out of a 1x2 frame with tile board on the inside and out. Do you think the frame will be able to hold a snake that has the potential to grow to over 200 lbs or would I be better off going with a 2x2 or 2x4 frame? I want something that will be relatively light.

Thanks for any input!

I think 8 foot long is better for a burm IMO. And also a 2x4 frame should be really sturdy if built properly.

Hello,

I know a 2x4 frame would be fine, I am asking about a 1x2. I want the cage to be somewhat light. Also, a 6' cage is plenty until the burm reaches 16'+, then Ill move her.

I would personally go with a 2x2 frame. I've used it on all my Boa caging and it works great~! Nice and stable. I used 1x2 for a Carpet python cage I tried out and it was pretty shifty. I use plywood for all my caging as well. I find it alot more sturdy and rugged compaired to shower or tile board. Hope this helps a bit~!

Just thinking in the long run yah know it costs more to build two than one.

depending on how you build it a 1x2 frame can be very good.

Every cage I have built except one has been built with 1x2's and we are talking 4 high cage systems

In fact the gecko cage I built I cut the 1x2's in half so it was 1x1 and that cage is strong as can be.

Its not how much wood you put in it, but how you do the frame and the type of glue you use to hold it.

JMesser is on a distinguished road
I would go with the 2x4 frame, and around 8' long. I have a burm also not that big yet but I am gonna build one with 2x4 frame and 8' long.
