albino burmese python pics
Hay guys.
It's me Bliss again.
I decided that I wanted to have a visit with the python anyways. Just cuz I miss big snakies.
He's 7 years old and almost 10 feet long. I'd say he's around 50 to 60 lbs.
He had an AWESOME temperment for travelling in a box from one city to the mine and all the new smells my apartment must have.
I really want him. Really bad.
He's so awesome and silky and strong and a good disposition.
THe owner says he's never bitten, never had any medical problems with him. Always a good eater.
He says the last 2 years he's hardly grown in length @ all but some in girth.
Do you think by 7 years he has acheived his full length?
If I adopted this guy, would he get 18 feet and 200 lbs on me outta no where?
ha
I want him so bad.
OK here is some pics of him and I:
Here is a picture of him on my boyfriend Galen:

At 7 years old for a male he is about the right size. There is very little chance of him ever reaching 18ft. and 200 pounds since males seldom get over 12 or 13ft. My male is 12 years old and just over 13ft. and he is an albino too. He looks to be a really nice burm and would probalby make a good pet. You look like you enjoyed your interaction with him too. Good luck.
David

thanks david.
I really liked having him for the 3 hours we hung out.
I asked the owner a MILLION questions about him.
I asked the advice of everyone here in a previous post.
I was advised I might be getting into something over my head.
I would like more imput.
It's not that I don't trust the people that gave me advice. Heck I think Jules is like snake expert in my books. It's just that I am confident that I can handle an animal this large and powerful. And the fact that I really care about snakes and that I miss having one in my life so much. And I consider myself a really good pet owner (I have a lot of critters)
Any info you could drop on me would be Awesome David.
anecdotes, tips, facts, stories you have.
Anything.
thank you so much

He looks a tad on the scrawny side, He may be such a good eat cuz he isn't getting enough. I dunno may just be the way it looks in the pics. I think if properly fed I bet he would put another 2' on pretty quick not over night but within a year.
If your gonna have someone around to help you handle during maintenance then go for it. If your gonna be alone most of the time when handling, then dont. Pretty much as simple as that. None of us can tell you if you can handle it. Your definately not stupid when it comes to snakes. If you think you can handle him then go for ir.

Carlito: hehe. thanks for the encouragement.
EDr: HAY MAN how're ya! I was hoping more people I "knew" would speak up.
He does look a little on the scrawny side doesn't he? I was going to fatten him up good. I think he should be eating @ least 4 jumbo rats or one good sized rabbit every 10-14 days. RIght now he's on 2 rats every 10 days.
I live with my boyfriend. He shows no fear when it comes to any animal. And he REALLY liked this snake too. I work from home and he works full time @ best buy but I can wait till he gets home to handle him.
I really want this guy and I think he needs a good home. he owner expressed that he doesn't have enough time for him and he feels bad about that.
I have OODLES of time for him and all my other critters too.
He'll have his own bedroom. well, my bedroom. hehe. But it's practically empty and void of any other critters other than fish.
so no chance of him eating a ferret one day or anything.
my door locks
hehe
His enclosure is 8 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet.
do you think that is good enough for him?
If I let him stretch out for a few hours everyday?
Thanks so much everyone for your help on this decision.
I'm really glad RTB is here and all of you are.
I'll keep everyone updated.

8x4x4 is plenty. Actually dont need it 4' hight, but if thats what it is then cool. Yeah 2 rats every 10 days is almost starving him to death. You got the right idea. As long as you have competant help with you for handling time Go for it.

poor dude!
he's hungry all the time!!
I'm so surprised his temperment is so nice!
I'm going to feed him lots. like once a week till I feel he's gained enough weight.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to take him.
we're visiting again on saturday. i will make my decision then.

I don't think feeding him once per week is the way to go. You'd be better off just upping him to the appropriate sized prey item every two weeks to avoid messing with his gut flora. He'd be happy and healthier with just the right size
It sounds like you havegiven this some thought... I'd personally say go for it. No need to let the "little guy"go hungry.

luvmyboa: thanks for the advice I'll take it! *grin*
do you think I should feed him rabbits instead?
I've given this over a month of thought now. I've really went over everything in my head a lot.
I really want to give this snake a good home and love him.
python04slayer: thanks! I'll know for sure on saturday.

Hey Bliss...Please keep in mind that amelanism (albino) is a condition that requires a good bit of special care. NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT OR UV...EVER. Even bright household light may bother him. The cool pink color of his eyes is not really color. It's just that there is no black pigment so what you see that looks pink or red is actually the tiny blood vessels of the eyes. This lack of pigment makes them very light sensitive and prolonged exposure to UV will blind them. They can also easily sunburn. I'm just bringing this up in case you have/had plans of walking him around the parks or something on warm summer days.
The only factor that I considered when discouraging you from taking on a burm was memory of how skittish you were when you first got your boa. Wait till you have to deal with a burm feeding response I've been dealing with them for most of my adult life and I still get a little heart flutter when I feel the power of how hard they hit their food. You are going to need some snake tongs to hand him rabbits with. Don't try it by hand and hemostats or those long tweezers just won't work....Also I know he seems like a 60 pounder. They always seem a lot heavier than they are but when you weigh him, I'd be surprised if he's over 25 lbs. When he does hit 60-70 pounds, even though he may be only a foot or less longer than he is now, he's still over twice as much snake and much more intimidating and you won't be able to hold him like you are in the photos.
btw...is that your natural color? lol

I use 3 FT snake tongs to feed my burms (and boas too). They are strong enough to hold the weight of a large rabbit and keep me far from striking distance. the power is amazing and intimidating.
