Need Info
Heya guys. It's me tha blissaru
I've been chatting some people up on the local herp community trying to get myself another BCI.
And weirdness! I get offered a 6 year old 10 foot albino burmese python.
I kinda made a small promise to myself about no pythons!
but well, I love snakes sooooooooo much.
I need to read a ton more. that's for sure.
and I'm about to go for my first visit. To see if we can get along.
She has a custom build enclosure as well.
I'm apprehensive though.
Julius! I know you must have a ton of info.....
What do you guys think?
Yes take the snake
No, pythons are a freakin' armful.
duh
you know what I mean though
how is their temperment?
what should I expect.
I'm used to my extremely docile boa constrictor that was always a good snake.
thanks guys!!!!

i think python is good too if u have enough room to place it. But, u better meet him first. so u know u can handle it or not. just read more caresheets, know more of it. After that, if u still think u can handle a giant snake, just take it. i mean why not, right?

chrisballpython:
I've owned a 9 foot 40 lb boa constrictor for a few years (then she was stolen from me)
I'm pretty good with huge snakies.
I need to read more.
I need more info from people around here.
I hope others see this thread and reply.

I took in a 10 foot burm not too long ago (recently adopted out). Reason why he was found a home is because I am the only person in the house that enjoys my snakes and will handle them.
This snake was not always a happy snake when being cleaned and fed. Having a 10 foot burm strike at you is not fun. Let alone a 18-20 footer if you get a female.
If you do not have anyone to help you I would advise against a Burm or other giant snake.
Every time I need to deal with my burm I always envisioned myself getting tagged during a SFE (stupid feeding error) and not being able to get him off of me.
I am sticking with my BCI, BCC, and Dums for now (for the big guys).
If you have any questions let us know.

python04slayer posted link says it all. If you're going to take it on, at least you are not getting one as a hatchling. All the adult burms need good homes before another one is bred. You also need to isolate this snake from you ENTIRE collection.

I would go against the burm unless your the only person that can find a good home for this animal. We all know you will take great care of it.
However if someone else was willing to take the animal that is just as capable, I personally would pass it up. Thats a huge snake and it will get bigger. Plus the food cost is very high

thank you SOOO much guys for the really nice words and all the help.
I'm going to take your advice and let someone else that has a partner to help them handle this snake.
The idea of getting bit by such an animal IS a bit terrifying. Specially because I'll be alone with it almost always.
Not safe.
Thanks Natas, and Jules. I always repect your words you guys are my 'nake mentors.
