New and want to know more
Hi everyone I am Shannon from Rochester NY. I have 3 Ball Pythons and
2 RTB's I have been putting off getting a burm but now I have a problem.
As of Jan 1st 2005 we will no longer be able to buy giant Burms. If you own one you can be grandfathered in. So now I have no choise but to get him soon. I am getting a male Albino Burm and would like some input on them so I can make sure I do everything right. I read alot of caresheets and books but for me personal info is the best. I am building his cage so after it is done I am going to get him. So anything you guys and gals can fill me in on would be good. Thank you in advance. Shannon

info,( they can get BIG), and a have a "Im bigger than you, so I call the shots" attitude, but most dont, with proper care and tons of handeling.
Ive almost bought a couple of burms myself, but I decided it wouldnt be best for me(still living with parents and in a small 10x12 room) I just mean if you really can house a snake that sould get at least 15ft. and maybe up to 25 when properely fed, and you can have a confortable cage for it, then do it, also remember its a huge commitment and lots of people that get burms dump them because they cant handle that kind of commitment and housing.
I hope you get the snake, theyre cool. and I wasnt trying to harass you Im just hate people that dump their pets, And Im not saying youre going too, because Ive seen that Crush and Sophie are pretty big and you can handle just fine, so a burm shouldnt be a problem.
Good luck hope you get it

Burms are great to have. One thing you will noticed from the start, is their love for food. They are bottomless pits.. lol

I commend you for preparing an enclosure before acquiring the animal. They grow so rapidly in the beginning that it's difficult to keep upgrading to the appropriate size.
Please know your breeder, and select the animal carefully. Burmese are typically hardy, healthy animals, but you want to make sure that the collection he's coming from has not had any issues with Burm's Disease or chronic respiratory issues.
Males will not get as large as females, but they are still formidable snakes. My 5 year old male is currently approaching 14 feet and has surpassed the 100 lb. mark. This is not a result of powerfeeding, this is simply the growth rate of an animal that's offered food every week. He's never turned down a meal unless he was in shed.
Good luck with your preparations!

Any burm owners want to recommend breeders? I'm also looking for one. PM me if you know of one you trust.

What are you looking for, a normal, labrinth, granite, albino? I would suggest a normal for a first time burm owner if only for the avoidance of health issues that come with many of the morphs. you can get them for around $50, but that is one of the problems since it is easy to part with a snake that costs so little when it gets so big.
I have 2, a normal and an albino. Both are huge and cost lots to feed etc... So think long and hard before you run out and get one. They are sooooo cool and cute when they are 2ft. long and it is hard to imagine that they will grow to be giants that can weigh 300+ lbs (females) and kill you in a matter of minutes if they get a mind to.
