Cold and damp will cause RI. Burmese should be kept at 90-92 degrees at the warm end and 75-80 at the cooler end of the enclosure. Much different from boas. If you think your burm has an RI take it to the vet. There are some very easy remedies to this problem and you should have no trouble getting the snake past this. It is a common problem with burms and especially with the albinos. My male went through an RI last year and he came out of it fine. I use Baytril injections which solved the problem quickly and effectivly. The vet should know what to do and will take cultures from your snakes throat. Then you can decide on a method of medicating.

RI's develop much like mine would up north when i lived in NY...as David said..cold and damp environments. I know that for a fact cuz i used to get RI's once a year during the winter months. However a snake's lungs are much more delicate and susceptable to developing an infection.
If anything always check in with a vet who's has been educated and specialize in care for herpatiles. Dog & cat vets normally don't know a whole lot about herps.
what kind of snake do you have btw? I don't remember ..lol

A bigger heat mat will definatly help if it doesn't take up too much area in the cage and there is ample room for the snake to go somewhere cooler if it wants to. How big is your snake anyway?

You could easily do 1/3 of the cage with a heat mat or heat tape w/thermostat and that will help to give her a good thermal variant. Is she still snotty? Raising the temps to 3-5 degrees on the warm side may help her to get over it without the intervention of any medications. I would try that first for a few days and see if she is doing any better. Then if no improvement if aparant I would take her to the vet for a culture.
