Dwarf Retics and Burms
Although I'm not going to be getting a dwarf retic or dwraf burm for atleast a while, I'd like to know more about them. About how big does each one get? Does anyone here have either of these, and if so, where did you get it from? What's the average pricing on dwarf burms and dwarf retics? What are dwarf burms and dwarf retics like in personality if handled on a regular basis? Does anyone know of a website(s) where I can find out more information on dwarf retics and dwarf burms? Thanks so much!

They both breed at smaller sizes than normal....but neither have been collected long enough to have lived a full life so growth potential is all theory. Dwarf retics are getting quite large. Dwarf burms are brand new and being bred to amels and other morphs of normal size so that's bound to end up a screwy venture at best.

The "dwarf burm" that you guys are probably referring to is actually another subspecies of rock pythons. This is known as either the Ceylonese Python or Sri Lankan Python ( Python molurus pimbura). I don't know if the species name has changed recently, but this is the only one to my knowledge. They are distinguishable with a "spade" marking on top of their heads, as opposed to the spear on top of a burms' heads. In my opinion, the blotches on the P. m. pimbura's body seem more irregular than those of the burms.

No...it's not pimbura and anyway last I heard pimbura is back to being lumped in with just indian pythons now. It probably is some insular locale or something but they look like normal burms. Maybe someday they will get some DNA testing and get their own ssp name...who knows?
All I know about them is some young girl acquired them and Bob Clark claims that she got them from or through the guy that stole his albino ball pythons....so the heat is on kinda thing. There was a pretty good bickering match about a year ago on the BOI complete with restraining orders and law suites. From what I understand, she's trying to cross them with albinos and other morphs and probably has the whole project screwed all up and/or wiped out with BD by now anyway.

Hi JuliusSqueezer, They arent screwed up with BD. If you read the webpage morphspecialties.com you will see she actually it letting people know about BD. She is keeping anything with BD away from the dwarves. Yes there is a few dwarves that will be bred to animals that are older than 3 and that have never showed signs of BD, and then those dwarves are never put back in contact with the dwarves being kept pure.
Not all of our dwarves are being crossed, but some are. About the other stuff, why do you feel the need to bring that up, obviously she still has the dwarves, if they were millers then bob would have them already.
Many other breeders have bought them from us and are working on them and at least a few are keeping the project pure dwarf. I am happy about that because there needs to be a dwarf line that is pure and kept away from that BD crap. Its deadly and cant be stopped. At least most breeders that deal with burms will tell you its real, while other that have been hit hardest by it claim its fake, ha.
As an update, the babies hatched in 03 are now yealings and average about 30" long. They just dont grow very fast at all. Looks liek it will be a good 2 years or more of age before a baby will get big enough to breed.
Anyway for more pictures go to morphspecialties.com There is no pricing there, and if you want to know pricing you should email from that website, as this is a forum not a classified.
Thanks
Beau

Is there ever going to be a thread about burmese that you are not going to bring up BD Julius?
I know that it is a problem with some peoples burms, but thee are those of use out there that have had burms for many years and have never had any problem. I believe that there is something killing them and ther eis surely something geneticly wrong with the green line since i have seen perfectly healthy greens that dropped dead for no apparent reason.
But my point is, can't you not say "BD" in just one post about burms?

Maybe hes always saying it because he trying to warn people so they dont end up losing their beloved pets, or maybe because its something to be considered when a burm has a unknown problem.
