How do you feed your big snakes??
Do you feed in the cage? Or in a seperate container? Where do you feed them when they get 7'+?
Ive heard of people saying especially when they get bigger just feed them in their cage, just wanted to see how you all do it.

I feed in the cage. Feeding a giant snake outside of its cage and then moving it after its meal is just a disaster waiting to happen. Many people will argue with the idea that feeding a large snake in its cage will get the snake used to expecting food whenever the cage is opened. I don't think that's true. If you practice proper procedures you will be fine. You should always gently stroke a giant snake with a snake hook before reaching in to hold the animal. This is something I always do; it becomes a habit.
I have 5 reticulated pythons and no matter how much they are fed, some of them will always be expecting food. I would never want to handle a large reticulated python, or any giant snake for that matter, after the animal was just fed. Another risk that comes to mind is regurgitation. This would be very stressful to both you and the snake.

Hauling around 14 foot of burmese python after it has 10 pounds of food in its gut is ridiculous - you're just begging to have to clean up a very disgusting regurge. I feed all my snakes in cage and use the tap method and have never had a problem.
I'm afraid Easter is cancelled for next year. The Easter bunny has gone down the hatch.

We leave our bigguns in the tank. nothing like trying to handle them when they are in feeding mode. we used to move them but i got bit once and now it's in the tank feeding unless they're paired up.

Since I have some upper body strength and an extra set of hands, I feed my 8 1/2 ft burm outside of the her enclosure. At first it was a tough transition from the feeding tote to the enclosure but now it's really nothing. Now when she gets to the double digits I may or may not change the feeding patterns but as or right now, I am sticking with the feeding outside of the enclosure. This is so because I don't want the association of feed to be there when I open the enclosure to take her out. For the retic owneres, are owning retics the same as owning a burm please let me know I am considering getting a retic.

Hey Snakemann6, Retics do not get as fat as Burms, But they do get longer. And retics are generally more aggresive. Mine is anyway. There metabolism is phenomiminal. They can really put some food away.
