Can someone please tell me what the latest is on D3. I keep on hearing that its bad for leos cuz they can overdose. I also heard that it would take a whole lot of it to overdose. So whats the deal? I have the Miner-All supplement that has D3. Is that ok to use for my leos? If D3 is so bad, what reptile actually would need it? Thanks for any info.

D3 is more for basking lizards (beardies, uros, chams)and so on.In the wild exposer to direct sunlight helps thier bodys make it on there own.Since floresents dont put off near as much UV radiation as the sun thier bodys cant produce adequate amounts of D3. Thats why theres supplements with D3.
As for D3 and leos there is reasearch being done on proper dosages. The problem is that leos are nocturnal so many people belive thier bodys have found other ways of producing it.
When you add it to thier systems on top of what it allready makes it can be to much.
What Im doing is using plain calcium powder all but on day a week.
Hope this helps

Just because leos are nocturnal doesn't not mean that they don't need UV light. It just means that they don't need as much UV light. As long as you take them outside in the sun every once in a while they will be fine. This is at least what my reptile vet said about leopard geckos anyway.

Your not going to go too far wrong with a UV light but your nocturnal geckos don't really need it. You can get vitamin D3 drops for nocturnal geckos but I've been warned off these by several sources as geckos come in all sizes and the stated dose is the same for all. A vitamin D3 overdose is worse than a slight lack of it. Calcium powder on every other feed should do them just fine. Hope your geckos are happy bouncing! My rule of thumb with D3 is this: Get two powders, one with one without D3. Use the one with it one a week and the other stuff the rest of the time. They do need it in small quantities but can die from too much. If you can't find one w/o D3 just dust once per week.
