we have tons of cresteds and they all turn out loving the crested diet.
i mix it how you are supposed to mix it, i also mix it strait into baby food- which they seem to love more.

I keep mine in an open air cage with an undertank heater if it gets cold, fake hanging plants, a waterfall, and I use coco bedding but be careful my male just died because he ate a mouthfull.
PetCo has a fairly decent care sheet.
These lizards are fairly hardy and easy to keep. I also feed them crickets once a week but mostly use the baby food-crested gecko diet mix like cb76 suggested.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me, I have had mine for over 2 years now.
The price range in my area of Tn are about $80 for the adults and $60 for the babies regardless of where you go.
They have no specific temp requirments, keep them at an average room temp. Between 72-75 degrees.
They also have no specific light requirments because the are nocturnal but i put my cage outside like once every other week for like an hour or so.
A night bulb is good to have if you want to watch them at night.

i picked up a cute male flame morph for 40 the other day. they range anywhere from a $40-$80 average they can do fine in a 75 degree climate with 50% humidity. make sure u give em alot of branches considering they love to climb and some moss to hide under.

did you have a necropsy done? are you SURE it was the coir?
the majority of the information ive read so far in this thread is horrible. "75 degree climate?" they come from an area [new caledonia] that ranges in temperature, from 65 to 85. which is a pretty broad spectrum. with any reptile, offering a basking will kickstart their metabolism by heat --> eating --> growing. if you can achive temperatures of the low 70s to the low 80s in the same cage, thats ideal, however, during the warmer months, it is possible to keep them at room temperature [providing your room temperature doesnt get over 85 or fall under 65]
petco care sheets are a joke. youre on the internet. type in "crested gecko care sheet" and then take everything you read with a grain of salt. "The Internet is just a really big, really disorganized library, where most of the books are written by idiots and liars." - BME
that is never more true when it comes to reptile care sheets. i even heard someone say they kept their crested gecko on sand. and then it died. and all i could say was "duh" if you want accurate information. buy a book. there are many out there, and alot of crested geckos. if you want to go with a cheap method, ask a breeder. if you keep it well enough to breed it, then you basicly know what youre doing.
for quality care information. visit. www.pangeareptiles.com they have a forum with alot of crested gecko fanatics, so does www.forums.repashy.com
crested geckos range in price from $40 to up to $250. but you get what you pay for, bloodlines, morphs, sex, age and name brand all have a factor in price.
if you want a cheap male, PM me, and ill hook you up.. i have a few extra from last years breeding season,
my personal care techniques differ from most peoples, but im in the "naturalistic" crowd, that doesnt use paper towels, powdered diets, or fake plants.

No i didn't have a necropsy done. I saw him dead with a mouthfull of substrate and i figured that was the problem. I'm not gonna spend money on something like that when the problem was pretty obvious.
Also about your comment on petco care sheets you're right most of them are incomplete and innacurate but when you do as much research as i do before you buy a lizard and you find no less than 4 books that make the same staments and recomendations that the petco sheet does you can't deny that. thus the reason i recommended that particular sheet. it's also good to see someone with an entusiasm for knowing what you're doing before you do it. I commend you on your approach to naturalism and stament of facts about where the lizards come from. Now, i know who i need to talk to for any Cresty info.

since when is there a cap on old threads? are we not supposed to reply to old threads? if that is the case, why not lock them after a week or 2 [or whatever ammount of time] if no more "useful" information or opinion can be contributed to a thread? instead of making us feel bad for contributing to a thread that may be old. ive done it myself when ive clicked on that "similar threads" listed below, and not checked the date [which show only threads from 2002 in this particular case]. if you have something to say or add, i dont know why you wouldnt just do that. thats like encouraging people to start a new thread every time they have a comment or question, instead of replying to an old thread with realevent information. threads arent only useful for people who originally posted the question either. i read threads that i may share an interest in, even if its completely out of date, because the information is still there.
and on the mouth full of coir, reptiles will sometimes eat the substrate if they lack something else in their diet. my crested geckos eat their substrate occasionally, but its a fine enough grain that it doesnt cause impactation, and so ive never had any problems. females when digging to lay with particularly do this.
