feeding crested gecko
My little brother just picked up a baby crested at the daytona expo. It really likes when it gets baby food (apple and peach), but absolutely refuses to have anything to do with crickets. Should we try feeding it wax or meal worms or just wait and hope that it eventually wants to eat the crickets just as much as the baby food?

Re: feeding crested gecko
How big is this crested gecko? Stop feeding it baby food - it's not good for it. You need to look into getting Rephasy's Crested Gecko Diet. If the gecko is just a baby & you continue to give it baby food it will more than likely develop MBD. The link I provided is the only thing you need to feed your gecko. It has all the nutrients it needs in the food. The crickets & wax worms are optional and should really only be fed every once in awhile.

Re: feeding crested gecko
Ditto what TK said.
You can mix the baby food & CGD at first if the gecko is a reluctant switch but you should phase baby food out of the diet entirely ASAP.

Re: feeding crested gecko
Pangea is also another good place to order Repashy, but the link I provided before it the cheapest place I've found it.

Re: feeding crested gecko
Oh wow thank you very much I had no idea that baby food was bad. We actually got the caresheet for the gecko from this forum and it says to feed baby food as long as it does not contain citrus. Thanks and will switch right away.

Re: feeding crested gecko
You can feed them crickets, but usually when they get older.

Re: feeding crested gecko
I ordered the food online, it should get here in 2-3 days, in the meantime should I only try to feed it crickets (which it doesn't show interest in) or should it just not get anything? We've only had it since Saturday and only fed it baby food about 3 times so i don't think that that amount would have any lasting effect? The gecko is only about 2" long head to tail (maybe a little more).

Re: feeding crested gecko
The baby food isn't going to kill him or anything, it is just not a recommended staple diet. It has far too much natural sugar, even the organic stuff, and the CGD is specifically designed for them. You should see no lasting effects of the baby food, but definitely get him eating the Crested Gecko Diet as soon as you get it in. For now, you can still feed a little bit of baby food or organic apple sauce to tide him over. If he's that small, I personally would worry about not feeding him for 3 days.
It's totally okay that he doesnt show an interest in crickets- in fact you dont have to even offer them. Many large-scale breeders do not feed crested geckos crickets at all- so its quite possible your gecko just is not used to being fed them. You can offer a few at a time still if you want, but make sure you dont throw a ton in there if he isnt eating them, they can actually hurt him.
