depends which one you want..beardies requie large enclosures, and special uv lighting, where as leos are kept much the same as corns

Beardies are a little meatier, but nothing beats the taste of a good batter-fried leo. With a side order of onion rings it's like a little slice of heaven..
Sorry..I've got no opinion one way or the other. If it eats bugs, I don't want it.

Leopard geckos are going to be the easiest to care for. They are really hardy lizards that are great for beginners Beardies require more space, fresh vegetables, uv lighting, and a little more handling time, but they do have great personalities (as do the leos)..
Guess I'm just rooting for the little guys cause they are so adorable!
nahh.. I dont like leopard geckos...

oh yeah..the trick is to flour them before battering so that the batter has something to stick to. Then just drop in hot oil and serve with ketchup. Yummy!

Well, I've had both and like both. Right now I've got one beardy, my only token lizard. Actually we consider him more my wife's lizard as she is very fond of beardies. As stated they do take bigger enclosures, special lighting, etc. but if you're looking for a very handlable lizard, beardies are it. Our big guy will sit on my wife's shoulder while she's walking around the yard and is fairly interactive. They of course are good sized lizards too, getting upwards of a couple of feet long, or there-abouts. Important consideration...beardies are diurnal (active during the day).
Leopard geckos are pretty cool too. I consider them more vivarium animals, though you can handle them lightly they aren't quite as 'durable' as beardies. They don't need the full spectrum lighting like the beardies and their diet is simpler too and since they don't need as big of an enclosure can be generally easier to set up. The fun part about Leo's is they're nocturnal!
Why am I pointing out whether either of these lizards are active during the day or night? Well, when will you most likely have the time to feed, clean enclosure and otherwise interact with them? I work during the day and one of the things that I love about my boas is they're active at night when I'm home!!! If the only time you get to see you're pet is when they're sleeping you'll only get so much enjoyment out of them.
Anyway, hope that helps a little in making you're decision!

Slightly OT but....
I think you should wait til your crestie is big enough to sex and then get a mate for it!
It's cool having a number of different types of herps but it's even more fun breeding... of course that's waaaaaaaaaaaaay down the road when you feel you are ready and have the houseing set up and the info at hand to take a stab at it.... and it's always great to raise your breeders up yourself too....
i know you mentioned something about breeding your's with boaguy's crestie but come on don't you want your own pair...
On beardies vs. leos.... they both have their pros and cons and for right now i'd say a leo is best for you... just because they are a little bit less maitenence...but once you're comfy with the cresties and the leos then you should be fine with working into your schedule the green chopping and what not...

Let's see Beardies smell bad! Geckos poo in the same spot in the enclosure. Beardies life span around 5 years Leopard Gec's can live up to 30. Beardies need veggies and animal protien gec's need bugs only. I've had both the but coolest lizard I've had was a blue tounge skink they are garbage dispose all's! The will eat anything!

i agree. but beardies require more care. leos make awesome starter geckos. beardies have great little personalities on them. the way they look at you sometimes is priceless. i suppose its really what you can afford, and think you can care for
