Help Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

Hi,

I've just got two Rhacodactylus ciliatus. They were in a really bad shape. The previous owner gave them only "T-rex Crested Gecko Diet". They are about 6 months old, but still very small. (The guy bought 5, but 2 of them died...) At first I gave them small wax worms and crickets, then I've tried to complete their diet with this T-rex CGD food, but they didn't accept it at all!
Now they eat some brown crickets in every 2 days, and I gave them vitamin supplements too...

Does anyone has any ideas about feedig them correctly?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

are they crested geckos? not sure which rhacs ciliatus are.
i feed my cresty repashy cgd at night, every other day. i also give him dusted crickets once or twice a week. waxworms i'll feed as a treat, once every few weeks since those suckers are so fatty. ive never actually seen the cresty eat the cgd, and sometimes the little bowl i leave for him looks like it was ignored (sometimes i see prints in the cgd, which leads me to believe he attacked it, or at least walked over it).
from what i understand trying to give them a mixed diet from your choosing can be quite difficult and cgd is all they really need. you dont really even need crickets, i feed em cause i have fun watching him leap across the enclosure for em. anyway, ive used t-rex cgd and he was kept on that for a few months before i discovered repashy. repashy smells freakin good, ive even thought about sampling it (smells like fruits! kinda like gerbers baby food, or fruity gum) but it says on the bag i shouldnt, so i didnt. i think i will though, i think about it everytime i feed.
also, my cresty doesnt drink from a bowl... i have to mist once or twice daily and quite heavy for him to start attacking the leaves and walls of the enclosure for water... he's a funny dude.

Re: Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

Rhacodactylus ciliatus = Crested Gecko.

I feed Repashy Crested Gecko diet to my geckos. Depending on their age, every night or every other night along with crickets & sometimes wax worms as treats. The insects aren't really necessary, it's really to the owner's discretion. The CGD has everything the Crestie needs.

@nitram: I wouldn't sample it. lol. My boyfriend has and says it doesn't taste as good as it smells! I know it smells friggen awesome. He says it reminds him of the bananas in the RUNTS candy.

Re: Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

yup!
smells like that powdered candy that ya dip the candy stick into.
the t-rex cgd doesnt smell as good, smells more earthy (like dirt) and less fruity.

Re: Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

If you lay off the insects for about a week or so, I would bet the geckos would be MUCH more interested in the diet.....insects for small geckos are like candy.....they can't resist it and often get hooked lol.

Re: Feeding Rhacodactylus ciliatus

(For the record, No,CGD does not taste good...)

The Crested Gecko Diet is really all they need, as previously stated. If they are in bad shape, it's likely due to other factors (dehydration, being kept too hot, etc). Get them set up in a room-temp enclosure, make sure to mist a couple times a day, and feed CGD every other day (since they're not doing that well, you may even want to offer it every day).
Their smaller size may also be due to being housed together? It can really stress them out and I prefer not to house rhacs together, even young ones, unless they are breeding. I would suggest separating them if you havent already done so
