Unhappy So sad

I rescued 3 leopard geckos off of craigslist from a guy who was going out of the country and didn't know what to do with them. I offered to take them for free if he couldn't sell them. Well the next day he showed up at my door with 3 geckos (mama, daddy, and baby). He dumped them at my door and said "I no do good by them" and left very quickly. I took them in about 3 weeks ago and was waiting to see if they survived to post anything about them. I'll tell about each gecko from best condition to worst.

Daddy (now named Xander or Komodo dragon by my mom) was in the best shape. He is healthy and BIG. He eats like a champ and eats everything (except crickets) that I put in front of him. He looks like a komodo dragon when he is hunting his prey. He is a Hypo from what I've been told. I will post pictures later to see your opinions on these guys.

Baby.... He told me that baby was 2 years old but it is obvious she is only a couple months at most. She is suffering from MBD and is very thin and was dehydrated and covered in about 6 layers of stuck shed. It was so severe she couldn't open her mouth or move her legs or head. So first thing first was a soaking and removal of the shed. The shed was so bad skin has grown partially over her eyes it seems. Well she is now doing better and eating and able to walk (which she wasn't when I got her). She is looking good and going into a fresh shed for me which I will make sure she completely gets off.

Mama.... Mama was so close to death I was surprised she lived 3 weeks. She was severely impacted and malnourished and dehydrated. I managed to help work the impaction out but could never get her to eat. I tried everything including crushing meal worms and feeding her the slurry and baby food chicken to get her to eat something. She just kept getting weaker and weaker. I soaked her and gave her water with a dropper since she was so weak to even raise her head or get to the water bowl. I worked so hard on keeping her alive for the 3 weeks but over the last couple days she just started to waste away. She couldn't lift her head at all anymore and she had what felt like eggs impacted inside of her. I was going to call the Vet today since last night she was very lethargic (more than before) and just didn't seem right. Well I went to check on her today and she was dead. At least the last 3 weeks of her life she was shown love and kindness and had a warm home and proper environment. The guy I got her from had her on sandbox sand with daddy and baby, no water, and no heat, and fed her crickets that were too big to fit in either her or baby's mouths.

RIP Mama.......... I wish I could have done more for you.

Re: So sad

Wow that is so sad We used to get stuff like that all time at the shop I worked at. Always heartbreaking. Glad you seem to be making some progress with the other two, keep up the good work

Re: So sad

Thanks guys. Baby is still not in the clear but she is looking stronger every day so I'm hoping for the best. I soak her every few days to help her get some leg strength so she can stand up and support her own weight with the help of the water. Daddy there is nothing wrong with lol.

America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. – John Quincy Adams (1821)
