two new additions
well, i bought two geckos today, a male crested and a female leopard. i got them, their homes, and all equipment for only $100 i thought it was a steal, so i jumped on it. Sadly, due to my error i think..the crested dropped his tail when i got him today, and i feel like a failure..but, here are the pictures!!
this is Fry

(im sad about his tail...)
this is Leela (she kept hiding her head, so no head pics as of now)
Leela looks more of a purple to me than white, so idk what kind of leopard gecko she is, any thoughts? i was told either a snow or blizzard haha, i was also told that those brownish/black spots were just part of her coloring too. But, here are the two new additions to my home

Re: two new additions
Depending on the eye color it is a Blizzard or Blazing Blizzard, if I recall correctly. Having random spots might make it something else. Either way, it's basically a leucistic. Cute guys, sucks about the crestie's tail though They look more like frogs than geckos without tails LOL

Re: two new additions
Usually it happens at breeding facilities, due to high numbers of animals together, stress from mating, etc. That's why pretty much every table at a show that sells cresties will have lots of "discounted" tailless ones. Only thing that stinks about not having a tail is you can't trick them into hanging on to your finger, which is pretty useful for picking them up.

Re: two new additions
Not as much with cresties as it does other geckos since they don't have fat stores in their tails or use them for any display purposes. I'm sure it takes some getting used to since they use it for climbing and still poses a risk of infection, higher stress levels while it's healing, etc. Neat thing about cresties is that their tail is not only prehensile but they also have a fifth sticky pad on the tip, so I would guess it's pretty helpful for climbing.

I've never seen one have to adjust, so it may take some getting used to, but I've seen plenty do fine without them.

I think that would be a Blazing Blizzard then. Like I said though, could be something else with the spots.

Re: two new additions
When I was younger I used to breed Cresties (which is very easy) and Tokay's!! Those are my 2 favorite Gecko's !!! I want to get a Flame Crestie just for a pet sometime soon...

Fry still looks good, even without his tail.
And as soon as Leela is done bieng shy, I'd love to see a picture of her face.

Re: two new additions
those are pretty awesome, congrats on the new pickups!
i just recently got into geckos myself and i too got a crestie and a leopard, fascinating little critters.
i dont think its too much of a big deal about the tail but i think it should be left alone until it heals so not to get it infected.
im very weary when handling mine as not to lose his tail, i notice when im handling it the end of the tail will curl into my finger as something of a support system (similar to how snakes will try to anchor down their tales). other than that i dont think it affects them in any way, i think its just like a reinforcement of balance for them for hopping around (when mine hops his tail goes straight up). i also dig how their limbs are webbed lookin i guess also to help them hop around.
its cool to watch the crestie pounce on crickets, seems theyre more accurate than the leopards are anyway from what i see.
i want to eventually add another crestie or 2 to my collection.
