Re: '09 babies
i love them all. quick question, when is a good time to identify the sex? ive had my baby for a few months (from sam) and still shows no bulge, then again still isnt any longer then my finger (i got big freakin hands). is it safe to conclude that it is a she? or should it remain a 'pat' for a bit longer?

It can be hard to tell just by looking for a bulge. I've had some males develop a bulge realllly late. like 18g. I've had some start showing at 10g. The only way to know for sure on a little one would be to look for pores, but you would likely need a jewelers loupe. I'm usually pretty accurate at about 8g, but I prefer to wait till 10-12 before guaranteeing sex.

Re: '09 babies
I can usually tell for sure by about 5 grams with a lighted 30x loupe. Having mostly light-colored geckos helps! I've actually got a 3g. baby with pores, but they can take a while to show up, and heavy patterning and spots can make louping difficult. I bought my loupe at Pangeareptile.com
Do you have anyone local to you who breeds cresteds who can loupe the baby for you?

Thanks! I like him a lot, too. I was -really- surprised when I saw him in the incubator- he came from a red flame x red harlequin pairing.

Re: '09 babies
I will take a picture of my largest males' pores tonight..they're really easy to see. You're looking for a V-shaped area of scales on the inside of his legs that each have one dark dot in the center of them. They're easy to see on adults once you know what to look for and babies just take more practice.

Re: '09 babies
I totally forgot about this thread. I haven't been able to get good picture of Zeke's pores 'cause I can't find a KK that doesn't have water spots. Here's a link: Pangea Reptile Crested Gecko Care (Scroll down.)
