Here's another idea that works for nearly every animal.
Get some saline solution (contact lens type) and a couple of 2 x 2 gauze pads.
Wet one pad with the saline and put it on the crust to let it soften the dryed stuff.
After it is loosened, then it should wipe off easily and you will be able to get its eye open
( most likely on its own) and see if it is normal appearing or abnormal.
After this, let it be undisturbed for a day and look again. If it is crusting up again or getting gummy goop in the eye, then yes, a vet is needed.
If it is clear , normal and with no more crust or gooey stuff, then most likeky the eye had an obstruction that was cleared during the saline moistening and cleaning.
Geckos are squirmy at times, so you may want to wrap its body in a washcloth to prevent any jumping away and getting hurt or squirming and breaking the tail by acident.
Good luck and keep us up on it.
