Looking for info on tokay's
Well i've always been a leopard gecko lover, but recently found out how amazing looking tokay's are, and also how easy they are to care for, so now kinda sticking my nose in the idea of getting 1 (or a few =P), just wondering if somebody could give me a few links for breeders or where to buy? That would be greatly appreciated
Thanks a ton =)

Re: Looking for info on tokay's
I have to disagree about temperature, tokays need it warmer than room temp (average "room temp" is 70-72 for most people, they like it low-mid 80s during the day), I would definitely give the gecko some source of heat, I prefer a basking lamp myself.
They are pretty easy geckos though, but they are not known to be friendly. they do get big and they can get very mean. When a tokay bites, it usually doesnt let go. Its not a very pleasant feeling lol.
Considering they get so large, They do need a pretty good size enclosure. Height is much preferred to width since they are a climber.
Offer a lot of branches and leaves, other such hiding spots because without them, the gecko can and probably will be very stressed out all the time.
Humidity is rather important with them as well. A fogger or mist system works, or just spraying down the tank with water once ot twice a day usually does the trick. If they don't have proper humidity, they can have issues with shedding, and trust me when i say that you dont want to have to try to restrain a big tokay to pick off stuck shed :P
Tokays are carnivores, I feed mine a diet of primarily crickets and superworms. She gets an occasional horned worm, as well. I've heard people say they can get them to eat Crested Geckos Diet, but I've not had luck with that lol
Yeah, that's all I can think of at the moment lol. I know you have experience with leos but tokays are quite a step up from them. If you're looking for a cool gecko that's different than a leo but still handle-able, maybe consider a crestie
Btw, here's my girl shes about a year and a half old
and her tank:

Re: Looking for info on tokay's
Take note of Sam's enclosure, it's a nice tall enclosure with doors on the side, which makes cleaning the bottom of the enclosure less stressful for human and gecko.
I kept a breeding pair of tokays in a standard 75 gallon aquarium. While this can be done, it was difficult to clean the bottom of the enclosure without the geckos trying to "explode" out the open top.
The last time I checked, the vast majority of tokays offered for sale were wild caught adults. The last show prices I remember seeing had the tokays at about $15 - $25 each. I think now a days they have more expensive color morphs. Tokays are usually intolerant of human interaction, but make nice display animals.

Re: Looking for info on tokay's
I don't know about any breeders in particular, I'd just Google it or look on Kingsnake and then ask around to see if any of the breeders plan on coming to a show nearby so you can chat with them and see the animals up close before you buy. People are finally starting to breed these guys so they are starting to show up here and there at shows CBB. I would definitely NOT buy a WC, you're looking at a lot of parasites, broken toes/tails, and nasty dispositions so definitely seek out a breeder. I've also heard plenty of the CBB geckos becoming fairly tame when raised in captivity, and they are definitely really neat looking and very intelligent and fun to watch so good luck in your search Pricewise I want to say I saw CBB go for around $50. You can also get morphs nowadays which is pretty cool. If you're in FL I'd say with 99% certainty they'll have some at the Daytona show which is the last weekend of Aug. Hope that helped a little.

Proof why saying "room temperature" can be unreliable. Your room temperature may be way different than someone elses, which may lead to confusion and improper care of a gecko.

Julie from Gecko Ranch has some CB babies from time to time. I got lucky and found mine at a local pet shop that breeds them

Re: Looking for info on tokay's
Now & then folks have gotten little ones by accident, so check around. Some w/c imports in petstores manage to increase the supply too...good luck! (Sometimes the nearest herp society is a good source?)
