Like some of you may have seen on my posts that I was just about to get a leo. Well I did they are the coolest little things. This is how I got his tank set up I got repti-carpet in a 10 gallon tank with a moist hide, water bowl, couple of rocks(for climbing), and a human heat pad set on low. This is only a temp tank till I build him his own tank. How does it sound? Also I was wondering how many crix or mealies should I offer a day. Caresheets always say something different so I'm here asking you guys. Thanks.

How old is your leo? That's really how you determine how much to feed. If its youg I'd feed as much as it will eat in a short period of time, usually like 5-10 crix and/or mealies nightly. As they reach adult size you can cut the feeding down to every other and then to third night as they get much older and they eat less. I feed 6-8 crix each, every other night for my near adult leos and I feed my lil ones nightly. I supplement calcium without D3 every other feeding to my adults and every feeding to lil ones. There is also a small dish of calcium in the tank and they will lick up what they want from it. I always like to keep some mealies in there all the time for snacking, probably 30% mealies and 70% crix.

Boa-man why without d3. My leo is just a lil baby. I have been dusting the crix with a multivitamin supplement. I have the calcium dust too but it has d3 in it. Is that a problem? If the d3 is not a problem should I put the calcium with d3 in a bowl in the tank? Thanks.

Nocturnal animals can make thier own D3 and it can build to toxic levels as vitamin D is fat soluable, it sticks around it the body for some time. The reason it is in supplements is for animals that don't get enough UV light, but since leos don't need UV they shouldn't need supplemented D3. I think that it would be ok in a vitamin supplement that isn't used more than twice a week, but find a calcium without it because it is D3 overkill. I use JurassiCal form the JurassiPet line of products, its also cheaper because it doesn't have the D3.

What about thte multivitamin I'm dusting the crix with. I read on a care sheet they need this multivitamin powder and a calcium supplement. Thanks for any info you might have on this subject.

The calcium is way more important than the vitamin supplement. Some don't use the vitamins at all. If you gutload your feeders properly then they will be nutritionally complete. If you choose to use the vitamins, don't use it more than once or twice a week.
