Ever since I bought that Tokay I'm in love with geckos. Don't get me wrong I still love my bci, but geckos are a really fascinating herp. Well now I want to get some leos and start breeding them once I learn all the stuff of course. I'm probably going to get 1 male and 3 females. I'm gonna use a vision to house them. The question I had is what would be a good size tank to house 3-4 leos. Could you give me the size in dimensions please. I tried looking through care sheets but they only told me they need 10 gallons per leo. I need to know what the size would be in dimensions. Thanks in advance. Take a 10 gallon size of space.. which is 24" x 12" for one gecko and for every extra gecko ad 1' x 1'. A 3 x 2 tank is good for 3 leopard geckos and 4 would start to be cramped. Each gecko should have atleast one hide but 2 per gecko is more exceptable. For example in the cage I keep 2 females i have 1 cave hide, 1 hide/water bowl (its a water bowl with a hide under it), 1 humid hide/laying box, 1 giant half log and a "Reptile den" Magnetic hide, for a total of 5 hides 2 1/2 per gecko.

So your saying if I have 4 leo's in a tank a good dimension would be 27 Lx15 d. Whats a good height measurement. I can never get a straight answer from care sheets on whats the best subtrate. So I'm gonna ask you guys what do you use as a subtrate for your leo's. I know this is off the subject, but what would be the best subtrate for my Tokay? Please I need some help here. As soon as I get paid tomarrow I'm gonna go out and start buying my supplies. Thanks.

To make it simpler 10 gallons per Gecko. Substrate should be paper towels or newspaper for hatchlings. But you can change to Calci-Sand or anything of the like since the hatchlings can easily become compacted if the ingest it

Snake mann you didn't read the post before you wrote did you.? I already said in the post that I knew they needed 10 gallons per leo but I need that put into measurements. Another idea I had was to just build one. I never built one before so any helpful tips would be great. Btw newspaper or paper towels is not exactly what I want to use as a subtrate. Any other subtrates that are good for Leos and Tokays. Thanks.

Well that or cage carpet cause I assume you are getting hatchlings. Otherwise you have no choice unless you want to deal with impactions.

No, What i am saying is 3' (36" x 2' (24" cage is good for 3-4 leopard geckos. Height isn't much of a issue, As they are terrestrial. Do not listen to SnakeMann87's advice about using calci sand. Calci sand in my opinion (Others might and will say different) should not be used as when ingested it expands and will clump in the stomach. If anyone does not believe me try taking a handful of it and wet it down a bit, you now have a ball of red/white/orange/yellow/whatever color you got of mud. Paper towels are a O.K looking substrate and are very safe. Another choice would be newspaper or repti-carpet.

Thanks for the help boaguy. So using astro-turf or repti-carpet will work fine for babies and adults? Well I decided most likely I'm going to build my own tank. I was thinking these dimensions would be more than enough space for the 4 leo's I'm planning to get 42 Lx28 Dx18. Again I never built a tank so any pointers would be great. I have never built a tank either, But I am sure someone will be able to help you on that. Those dementions sound fine. If you decide to go against building your own cage I highly recommend Precision Caging They are what I use for my leopard gecko's. They are plastic, lightweight and stackable with build in light at no charge.

Sorry about bringing up an old post, but it has the same subject so I figured why start another post. Anyway I just bought another tank for my 2 baby leo, but the problem is that the tank looked bigger than what it was. The dimensions are 24Lx13d is that good enough for 2 geckos to live the rest of there life in there? Thanks in advance.

I have been considering the same thing and I dont think that would be good for the rest of their life. Leos for the most part just hang out in one hide, but they do get the urge to explore. What kind of cage do you have? I just saw this thread for the first time and if you mention what kind of cage you want, I or someone else can tell you which one of that kind is best.

Its a reptile tank, but I think I'm gonna turn it on its side and make the dimension 24Lx15dx13h. I think that should do them good for the rest of their lives. What do you think?

I think It would be good for one of them for the rest of there lives, just get another cage once they are older.. most reptiles enjoy there own home better anyway.

Many people keep there leo's in colonies. Even some say that they become sad when you separate them from being with each other for so long. When I turn it on its side there'll be twice as much floor space. Plus the 2 leo's are always together wherever one goes the another one does too. Thats really the whole reason I went with leo's cause you can keep them together. So if I separate them there goes the whole reason I got them for. Tell me what you guys think.
