Hi, Last August I bought a pair of these gecko's. I never found out what sex they were, but the thing is I've found a couple of eggs in their tank recently.

I was confused because the eggs were glued to some leaves and in my care book it says that this type of gecko is a non gluer so perhaps these gecko's are a different kind than I thought they were.

Also, about the eggs. They were not the full egg shape that I would have expected them to be, but were a bit flat looking and dented. I put one in a tupperware container to try and incubate it and left the other on the leaf to see what happened.

The one in the tub went smelly and the other just stayed the same so I think they must have been infertile unless they died.

So my questions are:

Do these gecko's lay infertile eggs if no male is present or do they only lay eggs when they have mated.

Are they sexually mature when they are less than 1 year old?

has anyone got a clue what kind of gecko's they are? they look just like the madagascar giants but are gluing their eggs.

Do the eggs have to be fully oval shape to be fertile or is it normal for the eggs to look a bit squished?

Thanks for any advice, it would be lovely to get some little babies in the future.

Could you post a pic of the geckos for us so we can see them and see if that will help identfy them?

Also, if this is the first clutch then the eggs could just be bad anyway and maybe the next batch will be good. I don't think they would lay eggs with no male present. I think it is probably just the case of being the first clutch.

But, anyway, if possible post us a pic and we can see from there if they really are the species ya think they are.

The eggs might not really be glued like you think. They come out kinda damp and somewhat soft and harden some when dried. They could just be clinging to whatever they are laying on after drying. I know my leo eggs have sand stuck to them when they dry up a little.
I dont know much on the Madagascar Giant Day Gecko's but like Gizmo said, if it is thier first clutch they could be bad and the next ones will be fine.
And do get pics so we can help identify them.

I myself have .2 Phelsuma Madagacarensis Grandis.I have had them for 2 years and they were juvies when i got them.

1 yes they do in fact lay eggs withought a male present.
2 they lay 2 eggs in a clutch ( I found 18 eggs between the two last year,they must have quintuple-clutched)
3 and yes they are non-gluers (eggs are the size of large jelly beans)
4 Dented eggs? they were starting to rot already (sorry) gotta get there sooner i guess.

Word of caution about buying a mate : Do your species homework on these guys as i recieved a Phelsuma Madagacarensis Madagacarensis when i ordered a PM G male.( I knew,he didnt).

Thankyou all very much for your help.

Now at least I know that these eggs are infertile because both my gecko's look to be female to me.

I'm still not sure why I found these eggs stuck to leaves but my Geckos really look like the pmg , perhaps if these eggs are infertile they just drop them anywhere and they could have stuck or something.......anyway, I'm going to take some pics of the gecko's and the eggs and post them on here.

One more thing....Just a short while prior to me finding these eggs, one of my gecko's developed like a bendy tail, like when its perched on a branch facing downwards its tail started hanging downwards over its head instead of pointing upwards. Why is this? The gecko seems perfectly healthy otherwise and they both get a varied diet of dusted crickets, mealworms, fresh fruit and fruit babyfood.
