Got my Baby Crested Gecko... Need Advice?
I finally got myself a crested gecko.
At $100 with some baby food and some calcium powder.
I usually do a HUGE butt load of research before buying any animal but this was very soon as he was going to sell it to someone else if I did not buy it sooner and I loved the colour. So anyway how much baby food do I give it and should I put some of the powder on top of it? He's in a temporary plastic bowl with air holes and a lid, I'll be buying him a proper set up tomorrow.
I'll be buying the gecko diet also.

There are others on here who can answer your questions better than I (Sam in particular comes to mind). But I will be the first to ask for pictures!!

Yes Sam is the best person to ask about the cresties XD but I think it would be fine to not put the calcium in the baby food for tonight. I'm thinking I read somewhere they need it in food about 3 times a week? Not sure though

Re: Got my Baby Crested Gecko... Need Advice?
Awesome, cresties are sooo much fun, congrats on the newbie.
firstly, ditch the baby food. I know a lot of people will say you can use it, but i dont recommend it. There's too much sugar and not the right nutrients for them. Get some Crested Gecko Diet from Repashy. that's the best stuff there is. Definitely my favorite. I feed CGD every other night and apropriately sized crickets about 1-2 times a week. they do NOT need crickets if you do not want to feed them that. I know plenty of people that dont feed crickets and have perfectly healthy cresties AS LONG as they are on a good CDG diet
for tonight, since it's what you have, just put like a half a teaspoon of the baby food in a shallow dish for him. he may eat, he may not, since he's in a new environment and may be stressed out. you can go ahead and put a little calcium powder in if you want, but it's not 100% crucial that you do tonight.
make sure he's not too dry, mist the enclosure once or twice a day to keep it moist. I recommend getting a set-up ASAP,though I'm not quite sure what you've got him in now..lol. I keep babies in critter keepers, but I've also raised them up in 10gals, so it's really up to you at the moment.
good luck with the little guy. If you have any questions PLEASE PM me, I can help ya out.

Re: Got my Baby Crested Gecko... Need Advice?
Thanks so much Sam!
I can't find ANY stores that sell the Repashy diet but I did find a store that sells the T Rex Crested gecko diet and allot of people are using that brand in my area and it seems all I'm getting is good reviews on it. So I'll be buying that today. Also is it ok to buy him either a small heating pad or bulb for his tank?
My room is very is warm but I just want to be safe.
I'll also have some photos of him later on, so cute!

no store will sell Repashy, ya gotta buy it online. You can get it through Pangea, but I've just ordered mine from Nick Esposito at Dreamtime Reptiles: Dreamtime Reptiles
I get the 4lb bags because i go through so much, but with just little guy, you could probably go with the smallest or second-smallest bag and be just fine .
But the t-rex is okay, too. As far as i know it's the same thing.. or at least that's what i've been told. It usually sits on the shelf for longer at the store and it's just not very fresh... I prefer the repashy diet. Also, you're spending wayyyy more by buying the t-rex diet at petco or whatever. I tried it once when i first started with cresties but I didnt like it so i switched to the repashy and never looked back.
sorry for the rambling.. i hope that all makes sense.
Oh, and as for the heat, what's your room temp? I dont keep lamps or heat pads on any of my crested tanks and they thrive and breed just fine

My room temp is about 75 to 85 with the heater on.
I'll have to buy the T rex Gecko food on Sat as I had to work and go to the dentist today. The T rex food is only $6.99 which I think is pretty cheap. I've never ordered anything online as I don't have a credit card and I have no idea how too order things online but I'll try and learn. =]
Here are photos of my baby!

Re: Got my Baby Crested Gecko... Need Advice?
they wont eat a ton, but I'd rather mix too much and end up wasting some then not enough. Get yourself some plastic portion cups, they're easy to toss every other day, and really cheap
I'd say like a teaspoon-ish? maybe? it's hard to tell ya for sure . lol
