I have a leo that is showing signs of neurologic problems, pacing the cage, neck arched, screaming, and acting very agitated. I cannot see any signs of injury or anything stuck in his throat. All the vets around here refer all emergencies to the new emergency clinic, but the vet there tonight won't see reptiles. I have no idea what to do! Temps are fine, and nothing has changed. I did give him some Flagyl on Sunday, because another gecko he had been in contact with had parasites, but could an overdose take this long to manifest? If so, what can I do about it! Please help! His temps are fine, he's been eating fine(silkworms), acting fine, and was normal this morning.

Well, I got a good look at his tongue and I think he bit it or something! The end is all purple, like a bruise or a blood blister. No wonder he was screaming, his tongue hurt! He's calmed down a lot, so I'll have to keep an eye on it. All I can figure is he bit it, as he only gets small silkworms for food and there are no electrical cords in the cage. Go figure?

hmm "Screaming Geckos" sounds like a cool name for a rock band.
sorry
seriously...tongue biting sounds like a symptom of a seizure to me....I've never experienced this with a gecko...but it doesn't sound unreasonable. I really don't know if there is anything you can do...it may or maynot reoccur....I would keep him isolated though for awhile.

Hmm, never thought of a seizure, thanks Jules. We did find a spider in the basement today, but that's unusual for this time of year, so I don't think he tried to eat one that found it's way into the cage. I'll definitely keep a close eye on him, though. Poor guy, I feel sorry for him, that tongue's got to be sore!

("Screaming Geckos" sounds like a cool name for a rock band.) Julius, your so funny,, and wouldnt you be suprised if someone did use that name for a band.. see you given people ideas.. reptilemama, could be that it pinched it or bit its own tounge by accident, lizards have been know to mistakenly bite there tounges by accident when eatting, or just by flicking the tounge out to test things they are intrested in.. but then again ya never know.. "OUCH".

I thought he bit it, but the next morning he was perfectly fine and his tongue looked back to normal. Now I'm wondering if the cat freaked him out and he was so upset he hyperventilated and the purple color was from lack of oxygen! He's been fine ever since, eating normally and everything.
