Leo Help!
Okay so I (Brad this time) work at Petsmart. Yeah yeah big corporate congolmerate this that, but hey, it pays.
Today the Pet Care manager came up to me (knowing I keep herps) and said
"Hey, come check this out."
I thought it was just the BP's cuddling again, but alas, our adult Leopard Gecko had just laid an egg. She asked me if I wanted to take it home and try and hatch it, I said yes.
I think I pretty much have the jist of it, but just to be sure, can you all give me any pointers?
Here's what I got:
The egg is in a peat-like substrate, half-buried
I'm about to transfer it to a small Kritter Keeper, so I can use a UTH. I have a Rheostat, so I can keep the UTH on a low temp (prolly around 81, I'd like it to be a female).
The lid is covered by foil, with holes in the top; I'm trying to keep the temps/humidities consistent.
Anything else? Just 6-10 weeks right?

Sounds good just be careful with a UTH because it could get too hot and fry the egg. Its better to use an actual incubator. Also I would make it 79 personally to make sure I got a female.

Sounds good thanks
I have the UTH hooked up to a Rheostat on a low setting, it temp guns in to right about 80ish as of 15 minutes ago.
Thanks again, JT.

Then your set if you have a temp gun. Make sure to get the temp right where the egg is because under the surface it may be a little hotter with the UTH.
Good luck with the egg!!!

Re: Leo Help!
Just curious, do Leos develop and lay infertile eggs once they're mature, or do they have to be bred first, to develop the follicles? I know some lizards do it, but just didn't know if leos do it or not.

They can lay infertile eggs without being bred. Almost all geckos can/will do that. Most see that as a sign that they are ready for a male.
