Strange Tokay behavior!
My Tokay eats crickets until he is full and then goes around stepping on the extra ones until they slowly die. My Tokay is a very dominant male so is this territorial behavior or is he just sickly entertaining himself? This all is just too creepy. If anyone has heard of this behavior before please comment. I am very curious and confused.
Thanks,
TBH

Yeah, I have no clue. I've caught him in the act several times now. I wonder if its stress from import or another issue..................

Re: Strange Tokay behavior!
Maybe he sees the humans stepping on bugs so he figures he should do the same?

Yes, he is killing them because of being dominant and having extra crickets in his enclosure is stressing him out, therefore he gets rid of the stress by just killing them. BTW you keep geckos?!?!?!?

Re: Strange Tokay behavior!
I have always said that if Tokay Geckos were the size of Croc Monitors, they'd be the only creatures left on earth. This is yet more proof.

Thanks. Yes I have 2.0 cresteds that seem to be non-male dominant in the same enclosure and I just picked up 1.0 Tokay. Have you ever observed male aggression to each other/dominance in male cresteds or any other male Rhacodactylus species?

Yes, males will attack eachother on site. I had two male crested in cages next to eachother and they would try to attack through the glass. I had to move them apart from eachother. Most likely one of the males will end up taking the tail off of the other one and will bully it, til it dies.

Yeah, I will try to breed them to females later on so a twenty tall would be a great idea for both.

EXACTLY. Tokays are so aggressive and they have such a large mouth compared to their size. I've seen some irresponsible kid's youtube videos where he fed a full grown mouse to a Tokay just a tad bigger than the mouse and the Tokay killed it in less than a minute. It would be amazing to see something the size of a croc monitor with the arboreal tendencies of a Tokay.

Re: Strange Tokay behavior!
That would be as scary as a very hot place.
It'd be like getting terrorized by dinosaurs again! Only this time they're murderous and stomp you to death simply for the heck of it. After devouring several of your buddies in front of you.

Re: Strange Tokay behavior!
Nobody really bothers to captive breed tokay geckos, generally because of their aggressive nature. So most are WC.

I hear ya, you can get a full grown adult for 15$ at a show or cheaper. I had a guy trying to get me to buy three of them for 5$ each.
