HELP, leo not eating or pooping
My sister's one year old leopard gecko has stopped eating for the past week or so. She is kept on reptile carpet, and eats mealworms and sometimes crickets. She has a calcium dish in her tank too. Her temps are 86 on the hot side and mid to upper 70's on the cool side. Lately she hasnt touched her mealworms and has not pooped. She has been very active during the day, which is obviously strange because normally she slept. She doesnt seem any weaker, but her tail is starting to seem thinner. We cannot figure it out, her routine has been the same since she was a hatchling and nothing has changed. We even placed an egg laying container with coco bedding just in case.
My sister is really worried, and doesnt know if she should take her to the vet. We also do not have a good reptile vet in the area so if she doesnt outwardly appear sick and hasnt pooped the vet isnt going to do much and has nothing to test. What should we do? We have been soaking her and trying to get her to eat but she just wont. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: HELP, leo not eating or pooping
If you can get in a fecal to the vet thats always a plus. Just to be on the safe side.
However 86 degrees on the warm side is a little low. I would bump that up to about 90-91.
When I kept leopard geckos I would keep their warm side at that temp (sometimes a degree or two warmer), and rarely if ever had problems with them not eating. Their colors were also a lot brighter, and they seemed more active at night.
Hope this helps,
Kristy

Re: HELP, leo not eating or pooping
Yeah, increase temps on the warm side. Double check the sex, males often go off feeding during this period of the year. But as a lone male it should be a brief period. Get the fecal checked out and double check for mites. Have her sheds been good? How old is she? Have the temps fluctuated much since she went off feeding or before? I find temperature fluctuations often cause many weird or abnormal behaviors in herps in general. The diurnal activity confuses me. ....Are their enough hides in the tank? At least one per side (warm and cool). Is the tank in a high traffic area of your house / apt? And how long have you had the animal?

Re: HELP, leo not eating or pooping
What type of substrate are you using? I know often times leo's will eat that sand crap that the pet stores tell you to give them and sometimes it will impact them to a certain extent. Also, you may want to try giving it a few crickets, our leo gets just downright picky sometimes and won't eat meal worms but will tear into some crickets. Hope this helped

Re: HELP, leo not eating or pooping
If the Leo isn't loosing alot of fat out of it's tail (that is the fat reserves), then I wouldn't worry too terribly much. When that starts to thin out you know that he's loosing his fat reserves, and you should take him to a vet. Try soaking him in slightly sugared water to get his appetite stimulated.
