Re: Gold dust day gecko
Let it back go? Do you know anything about taking care of it? Setups? Needs a Tank with UVB and a basking bulb. Insects of appropriate size that are not caught in the wild. Planted tanks are the way to go with P laticauda and really any other Phelsuma. If you are not prepared for it then personally I would just let it back go They are also nectar eaters and they like CGD or MRP's. I know there is a day gecko MRP out there.

Re: Gold dust day gecko
Even if you are prepared, I still think you should release it.
There are enough WC day geckos in the trade as it is. Give this one a chance to live a natural life.

I totally agree and Im glad Im not the only one. If you really want a day gecko they are like 50-100$ depending on which one and size and sex. Let that one go and get a tank setup and buy a CB one.

Re: Gold dust day gecko
I can not buy a gold dust gecko because I live in Hawaii. The pet shops dont carry them and it is illegalto ship them in. We have them in abunce here. They are an introduced species. I have a tank w/ live plants and a light I mist it twice a day. I also have about 200 pinhead crickets and I am pretty sure that it ate 15 to 20 this morning. I will post photos for you guys soon. I understand that you are mad at me for taking it out of the wild but the DLNR (Department of Land and Natural Resources) are trying to wipe out the geckos from the island.
Off topic, I hand fed two leachies yesterday at the Honolulu zoo. It was an amazing experice. Do you hand feed your leachies? And have you ever been bitten by them?
Thanks, SDD

Well then that makes sense man if you aleady have a setup for it. I say go for it then if you have everything it needs. Make sure they have UVB and a Basking spot too! Yes I hand feed the leachies here and there but not too often. I only hand feed if they dont eat for 2 weeks straight, which is almost never. Leachies are amazing geckos. Do you have pictures of the ones in the zoo? How big are they? Yes, Ive taken some bites from an adult leachie. IT HURTS!

Re: Gold dust day gecko
Good name.
Give the little guy a ton of branches to climb on. He'll appreciate it.

Re: Gold dust day gecko
I will give him a good amount of branches soon. I just gotta find some. If you don't know, Holoholo is a Hawaiian name which means runner. He is keeping up to his name. When I finshed posting above, I walked into my room to find him on the wall.

Re: Gold dust day gecko
Cute.
If memory serves, day geckos have really delicate skin. You might want to keep the handling to a bare minimum.

Re: Gold dust day gecko
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. I usually move him with a fine mesh net. I will try to keep handling to a minimum now.
Thanks, SDD
