Can Leopard Geckos Lay Infertile Eggs????
Hey guys, i have two female leopard geckos in the same tank.... and their both proven breeders, i was wondering if they can hold sperm or just become pregnant on their own and lay infertile eggs ?
Ive been reading my books and i cannot seem to find anything about it in there..so here i'am writing to you guys!
Thanks

Re: Can Leopard Geckos Lay Infertile Eggs????
Hey there
Yes, they can hold sperm. I believe its anywhere from 6-8 months. They also can lay infertile eggs. If you get a pen light or a tiny flashlight, hold the flashlight on one side of the egg, against the egg surface, and if you see a tiny "bulls eye" with some veins, its a fertile egg. Fertile eggs glow pink, while non fertile egges will glow yellow....eventually they mold if you incubate them or dry up if left in the tank for a few days. If you are planning on incubating, hold the egg in the exact position you found it in, and place it in the substrate the same way it was laid, or you could drown the embryo.
Its leopard geck breeding season, so don't be worried if you see some egg clutches. I would however, feed them more since they are either gravid, or laying eggs. If they are holding sperm and you want to incubate the eggs, the best thing to do is dust every feeding with a D3 free plain calcium and give them vitamins, once a week, while gravid.
I hope I helped a bit....there are plenty more people here who prbably know more. My females are dropping cluches now also, but the ones dropping them, are in a colony with 1 male.

You can see the eggs in Leo's easily if you look at their underside. They will look like two white ovals. MAKE sure to DUST their food!
